In this direct, winning memoir, Charlayne Hunter-Gault tells the story of her life from her birth in the Deep South still living out the legacy of the Civil War to her historic role in desegregating the University of Georgia, a high point in the Civil Rights Movement.

Personnal history at its best. Charlayne reminds us all of what decent families, and decent people had to put up with, what they were denied, how they were cheated - all because they weren't of the 'right' color.

Her story in this book will bring your blood to a boil, as well as make you smile time and again. She has done an excellent job of reminding us of how we were, how far we've come, and unfortunately how much further we have to go.

Quite excellent story -
