This is a light, easy read that's also a lot of fun. I'd consider it a good introduction to the fantasy genre. While parents would certainly want to preview the book to make sure they're comfortable with the subject matter (violence, undead, and if memory serves correctly, a little bit of intimacy that would probably rate a PG-13 in a film), I'd have no trouble letting a younger reader take a swing at this one.

A great Forgotten Realms novel that was also once a great game.
