Author: Shane Stevens
Thomas Bishop was 25 when he escaped from an institution for the criminally insane. Behind was a grotesque history of pain, murder and abiding rage. Ahead lay a path of vengeance, a reign of terror that only the greatest manhunt in U.S. history could stop.

This has to be one of my all time favorite books. I was mesmerized by the story and just how disturbed this character was. This is the only book I've ever read that I had to consciously stop reading because it bothered me to think about what was happening. I did set it aside for a day or so and then I was able to finish reading it. It was so disturbing I hesitate recommending it to people to read. In fact, since it's been several years since I read this, i just might read it again.

If you are a reader of true psychological thrillers dealing with the twisted mind of insanity and what we as humans are capable of, this is an excellent read. It's been a while since I've read this but it was the ONLY book I've ever had to stop reading because the character was really sick. If you enjoy Hannibal or true crime books, you will enjoy reading By Reason of Insanity. In fact, I'm keeping one copy for myself to read again very soon. ENJOY

Although this was published in 1979, I have never read it. It was awesome. A first hand look inside a killer's mind. Excellent novel!
