I found this book a quick and easy read. I expected a little more "fire" sooner than it arrived, and it was kinda like your first kiss, great expectation and over way before you expected it. And it retrospect not as great as you remembered, but still warms your toes.....

And, it's a return to Stone Creek. This time, the story centers around Wyatt Yarbro, from the notorious train-robbing clan. His attempt as a cattle rustler fails, so he winds up in Stone Creek, at a revival tent, and falls in love with Sarah (who works at a bank). There's lots of action in this one, and some guest appearances by Rowdy (the current sheriff) and his wife, Lark. For awhile, Wyatt had to wear the deputy badge himself, and he wasn't too bad at it!

Overall, I was kinda disappointed in this book. There wasn't nearly an equal amount of passion that Ms. Miller normally puts in her frontier westerns. So, that was lacking. Also, at the end, she has Sarah saying something to Wyatt and ready to do someting that just didn't match up with her character. My jaw dropped open and I said "What???" right outloud. (I'm not saying what it is, tho.)

Read it and see what you think...

It wasn't what I had hoped. Not nearly as good as Wyatt's brothers story "A Wanted Man." This one seemed a little slow and didn't really hold my interest.

fast easy read with an interesting storyline and very likable characters especially, Wyatt. Worth the read.

This is book three in the Stone Creek series, but I read it first. Even though there were characters who were obviously from previous books in the series, it still made sense by itself. Wyatt Yarbro is a cattle rustler who has done time in prison, but wants to change his ways. When he comes to Stone Creek to visit his brother, a reformed criminal, he is drawn to banker Sarah Tamlin and starts picturing a different future for himself. Sarah and Wyatt are very likable characters who are well developed. I enjoyed the romance. My only complaint is that the ending was a little to convenient to be realistic, but it lead to the happily ever after I wanted.

The Stone Creek series is shaping up to be a very enjoyable set of stories. This third book concerns Rowdy Rhodes' oldest brother, Wyatt. This brother has recently finished a two-year term in one of Texas' fine prisons.

As the story opens, Wyatt is helping in a cattle rustling plot. As lightning strikes near the nervous cattle, Wyatt takes it as a bad omen and leaves. Penniless, he heads to Stone Creek, where Rowdy has offered to help him get a job.

The first person Wyatt sees in the town is Sarah Tamlin, organist at the three-day tent revival. Later he finds out that Sarah and her father run the town's only bank. Before long, Wyatt realizes that Sarah is hiding some secrets - and they are starting to overwhelm her.

It soon becomes common knowledge that Wyatt was "also" an outlaw (everyone in town knows that Rowdy was one in his younger days, but is now accepted as the town's marshal).

When Sam O'Ballivan and Rowdy leave town to chase some out-of-town crooks, the younger brother makes Wyatt deputy. Citizens are a bit concerned about whether Wyatt has really left his outlaw days behind him.

The plot is interesting and multi-layered. Miller keeps the action humming along. I really care about the characters and what makes them tick. THE RUSTLER is a great read!

I like the whole series of books about the McKettricks and lineage. I get lost in books when I read so it is a good way to relax. And a good way to follow the lineage of the family.
