This is the first book of this series that I've read and then posted to pass it on instead of keeping it ...really not up to her usual standards. Unreasonable emotions and behavior, and an unfair choice of villain.

RANT ON. This book ticked me off so bad about halfway through that I'm only going to comment about that. Deborah Knott is alone on the beach at night when she's approached by a colleague, a man who has made an inappropriate sexual advance towards her a year previous. She's friendly. He makes another move on her, she says no, but the guy keeps on. She cannot get away. She's afraid. But another person sees and punches the guy, Deborah is freed. Does she threaten to call the cops? No. Does she tell him âDon't ever come near me againâ? No. She says, oh well, let's forget about it. When her friends speculate about the black eye, does she tell them? No. When her good friend is going to make a date with the attacker, does she warn that woman? No. Is there anything in the text that explains why she doesn't want to press charges? Not really. These are pretty lightweight mysteries and I don't expect a lot, but still. This was written and set only about a decade ago, not 1950. Knot is not presented as a doormat who just lets anyone walk all over her. I hated her behavior here. Rant off.

Fun. Less family involvement, but interesting.

First book by this author, might be more interesting to a judge or lawyer but for me it didn't have enough mystery or events happening, I made myself finish it and I'm sure there are lots that will love it but not me.

I devour every book in Maron's Deborah Knott series. It would hard to rank this one, since I enjoy each of them.

I found it a bit fluffy. More like a cozy mystery.
