OK, I've been having weird things happen to me with PBS lately. Most I've chalked up to website malfunctions, but thought I would share what happened yesterday. I was offered a WL book that was not on my WL and is not even a WL book - there are 132 copies in the system! I got the usual email telling me "GOOD NEWS" a WL book I want is being offered to me. It was Rachel Gibson's Nothing But Trouble. I thought right away this was weird as I could swear I already had that book. So, sure enough, I see it on my TBR list in the system. Then I put it on my Reminder List and checked to see there are 132 copies of this in the system. I PM'd the other member and asked if she was offering that book to me direct for some reason and she PMd back that she has not been active on the site for awhile so really had no input into how I might have come to be offered that book by her. I canceled the request.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?? Is anyone else experiencing weird things lately? I have had a hard time searching throughout the site at times as instead of taking me where I click on to go, it keeps returning me to the home page, over and over again. This has happened on different computers - work and home - so I'm sure it is a problem with the website.

Let me know if you have any thoughts on this strange happening.

PBS has been whonky for me for the last few weeks. The site loads quickly, but times out when checking PMs, searching for titles and clicking through the forums.

Every now and then I can't access the site from Google - I have to go to the Swap a DVD site and access PBS from there.  Personal notes are iffy: I can either add them with no problems or I'll get a pop up that tells me that a note was attempted.

Other peeps have posted that they're having problems, but some of those seem to be a result of using IE. I use Firefox.

ETA: And this is the only site that I'm experiencing problems with.

There have been several threads recently regarding similar problems  you're having both in CMT (which is where the following link is from) and here in the Questions about PBS forum.  I know the team is aware of the problems, but I was told to make them aware of the problems I was having personally.  I've not read of anyone having a problem like your WL problem, maybe have missed it, but if I was you, I'd use the "Contact Us" link and make the PBS team aware of the situation you had happen.

Good idea Karen - I will do that. I've been reading about the system slowness in other threads as I experience that as well - and I use Chrome. Or when I try to add a book to my RL or WL  it tells me I have to be logged in to do that and I AM LOGGED in but it keeps reverting back to the home page and telling me to log in. I thought the speed was getting better lately but this WL thing was so weird.

Here's what may have happened with the WL book and how to find out if it did:

- You wished for several versions of "Nothing But Trouble" some time ago

- One of your wishes was granted, but the system didn't have the alternate versions linked, so they weren't removed from your wish list automatically

- In the meantime, the alternate version was sitting on the shelf of someone who was on vacation hold. This book could have been posted before you wished for it and the other member has been on hold all this time, or it could have been posted while she was on hold.

- The other member's vacation hold ended, and the book was offered to you.

You can check and see if this is what happened by going to your Transaction Archive and looking for the wish list request you declined. Click on the ISBN on that transaction and add that copy to your reminder list. You should see that there is only one or zero of that exact ISBN available.

It's a good idea to periodically sort your wish list by title and clean out any old wishes for alternate versions of books that you've already received. The system is pretty good, but it's not perfect, and sometimes it does not have all the right books linked to each other.

That's an interesting explanation Cathy. The other member did say she had not been active on this site for some time - maybe she did have a vacation hold on and just removed it.

Funny thing is I did just recently go through my WL and remove a number of titles that I got from other sources or no longer wanted. I don't recall seeing this book in particular listed, but I do have over 200 on my WL (who doesn't, right? - LOL!)

I received a request for a book that I had never listed, didn't have, and never heard of. I declined the request but felt bad for the person requesting the book.

I was just granted a WL request and it is showing up 2 times on my main page. I accepted the 1 and haven't done anything with the second one. It is both the same book from the same person. Weird....

This happens sometimes. If you have another credit, you should go ahead and accept the second request. Then PM the sender and explain to her that her book got double posted, so she should cancel one of the requests. When she does that, the extra copy will be removed from the system and the book will go back on your wish list, so you should then go to your wish list and delete it so you don't end up with two copies when the next person posts the book.

The reason why you should accept both requests if you can is so that the sender will have two requests from you and it won't matter which one she cancels. If you decline the second request or let it time out, then the extra book will be offered to the next person on the wish list and the sender will end up with requests from two different people, which leaves the potential for her to make an error and cancel your request instead of the other person's.

A few days ago I looked at my Reminder list and there was a book that was also on my wishlist shown as available to order...there were 47 people wishing for it, including me and I just happened to have it on both  my wishlist and reminder list AND my wishlist is set to automatic request. I did request it but I thought it was odd that being a wishlisted book, it hadn't been offered to anyone on the wishlist including me! Not complaining because I am getting a WL book months before I normally would and I guess it was just a glitch in the system but a baffling glitch in the system!

Sally, any chance it was a different ISBN/edition?  Sometimes I have one edition on my wishlist and move other (seemingly slower moving) editions to my reminder list.

Denise, it was only the one edition I was wishing for...matter of fact, I think that book is only available in one edition. I had had it on my reminder list and then wished for it when room became available on my wish list which is how it came to be listed in both places. When I clicked on the book to order it, it showed that it was on my wish list and my reminder list but obviously when it was posted it did not go into wishlist hold. And just for the record, out of the 47 people wishing for it, I was #39. It was just odd, start to finish. But I got the book today and I'm happy but the poor person at #1 didn't even have a chance to request it, due to the glitch.

I too have been having problems with Paperback Swap and cannot ordinarily even post because Dell automatically upgraded my computer to Internet Explorer 10 which PBS doesn't like.  It seems Internet Explorer is still most used browser.  I am using chrome now to post because I'm assuming others are having same issue - I had to delete firefox due to problems.  Chrome has such tiny print I have trouble reading it.  I can change print size with explorer - it helps when you're in your 70's and your eyes don't like tiny print.

I love PBS and do hope they will try to fix some of the troubles.

Katie, if you are having trouble reading tiny print just hold down the Ctrl key and click the plus sign (+) on the keyboard until the print is as large as you want. If you want to minimize the print hold down the Ctrl key and hit the minus (-) sign.

Hi Katie,

Also, try the F12 and Alt9 suggestion from this thread:

I hope it helps!
