I loveeee the CW show "The Vampire Diaries" (which I am currently watching).

I usually read the books that are made into a TV show or movie....before I watch the TV show or movie.

I love this show so much....but I am afraid the books will be a disappointment. I normally do not read YA. The only YA books I have read were the books part of the Twilight Saga.

Are the "Vampire Diaries" books good??? Better than the show??? Or should I just stick with the show and avoid the book??

Thanks!

The Vampire Diaries books are good. Their not great. Their not something that i would keep and re read at all. I think the first couple...the original ones that were first released a long time ago were really good, but as time goes on they get a bit stranger and stranger. I am still reading them as they come out just to see how things go but their getting weird.

I too LOVE the tv series....Ian may have a little somethin to do with that.....mmmmm.....lolol. But the show is SOOO much different than the books. I cant say really whether its a bad different or a good different.....just different!

Have you read the Sookie books and then watched True Blood? If so its kinda like that....both are good but really different.

The author was just fired from writing more books.  Apparently she intended the love interests to move in a different direction.  LJ Smith fired thread.

I enjoyed the books a lot. At least the original ones. But the books are quite different from the tv show, so just don't expect them to be the same. I think the tv show is better, imo.

I only read the first 2 in the series.  I didn't enjoy them enough to continue the series.  IMO the show is much better.

I have been reading the books for a year now, they are just so hard from me to get through, I really don't like them much. I love the show also. The books are so different from the show, usually the books are better than the movie or show.

I'm a 63 year old grandmother and I love this show! Does anyone else think the actor that plays Stephan would have made a much better Edward?

I watch the shows.  My daughter watches and loves the show and recently just finished all the books to date.  She does not like the books.  She said the 1st couple were okay... the last ones not so much.  And the books are very different from the show.  Everytime we watch she feels the need to explain in great detail every difference!  lol!

I love this show! I want Elena and Damon to be together and Catherine and Stefan to be together. I guess with LJ being fired we may not get to see that?

I hate when companies take over a series like this. They are LJ Smith's characters. A writer always KNOWS their characters. Really will not be reading the books now...

Im just about done with the books now too. They just keep getting weirder and weirder. I havent really loved the last few but, for some reason, keep reading them just to see what happens next. I always hoped that Damon and Elena would end up together in the end.

I adore the show  but HATE the books. I read the first omnibus and I struggled to finish it. I gave it a little more time since I tend to be impatient with YA but IMHO this was a HORRIBLE waste of time.
