My Mom called me about a month ago and this little kitty just showed up in her back yard. Mom has 2 cats already Simba and Spike. But this little guy was abandoned... He wanted to be cuddled and loved but was shy. So Mom and my sis, fed him everyday and made certain he had a warm bed. Mom had a milk crate, that she covered and put a heating pad in, and slide it under her deck. Finally just before Christmas he let Mom and my sis hold him. and they took him to the vet, he was really healthy but didn't have a micro chip, he had been neutered and declawed... So they took him to the humane society. When the woman opened the cat carrier. She started to cry! It was her Mom's cat and he had gone missing near Halloween.. 15 miles from my Mom's house! Isn't that an awesome story! |

Thanks for the wonderful story about dropped off animals. My cat (Miss Kitty) adopted me about 7 years ago. I was a dog person and cats were ok. However, she has changed my mind and now thinks she is a dog, IMO, and fits in nicely with the 2 poms. She prefers to live most of her life outside. DH, who had a cat in a previous life, cannot believe my bond with Miss Kitty. She sits on command, listens to me, etc. I knew that I liked the members of HF forum and this just confirms my bond with this group. Mary |

Wonderful story. My daughter found a young cat in a Slumberland parking lot in the middle of a torrential rain storm and took her home and adopted her. She is a real beauty now that she is at a proper weight. |

Oh, what marvelous stories! I love a rescue with a happy ending. Or when cats adopt people, either way. The Vicky Humanitarian Award? I like it! LOL...my DH would probably choke on his morning tea if he saw this. He told someone yesterday, "My wife can't leave a cat on the side of the road." Damn skippy Buster! I've been rescuing pets all my life but I have to share this one: My DD is a vet tech and when she was in school they had to go to the pound and examine a dog in order to determine what was wrong with it. Well, they got a 5 yr old (or so) black lab who was a mess and he was going to be put down. He let them all probe and poke and was so good natured about it... Well, she thought that dog would haunt her the rest of her life! My DH and I decided we would go and get him but we had to have a volunteer hold him for us since he wasn't "adoptable" (scheduled for the "pink juice" you know). We were able to bring him home and we nursed him back to health (we had 3 other dogs and 2 cats at the time) but we also decided we couldn't give him up unless it was an exceptional home! He was an exceptional dog! As luck would have it one of DD's instructors who was a large animal vet, who had no children, wanted him. He ended up living on a ranch with 2 vets - had the run of the place, was treated like a child - lived out his life in a royal way!!! |

Love them all. (stories and animals) Mary S |

I agree Mary. My DH wanted to go see the new movie Warhorse, but I don't know if I should go as I would probably cry so much that I would embarrass him. Movies about animals always make me cry. |

What a wonderful story! I'm sure both families are very happy for Binx. I just have to tell you the story of Fred. He was a kitten my DD rescued late in the evening because it kept bawling. It was under the porch at the empty house next door. We were having a cold snap and it was below zero so the little guy was quite lucky she brought him in (much to my unhappiness as all he did was hiss at me). lol Anyway, he was the funniest cat, whenever I was cooking or doing laundry...you standing there...he would climb up my body and sit on top of my head or on my shoulder. It just cracked me up. Our cat was not a fan of Fred, but she was very upset when he got sick. She would lay right by his little box we had made a bed out of for him. He was about 3 months old when we had to put him down because his chest kept filling up with fluid. We were happy that he got to live a happy warm life even though it was short. Our vet was the sweetest man. We knew we had to put him down and offered to come in on a Saturday morning so we could do it without other people being around. And, he didn't charge us for all the vet bills (there was quite a bit in the end), because we had rescued the little fella. J still tears up when she talks about Fred. All of ours have been rescued, it's just the best feeling ever! |

We were happy that he got to live a happy warm life even though it was short. That's what you have to focus on, isn't it? You and your DD were Fred's angels. What a great vet! |
