Is there any easy way to browse someone's bookshelf without first ordering a book. I would like to order some books on my reminder list from the same shelf if at all possible to save someone postage. Any tips would be mcuch appreciated... Kathy

All I can think is to browse members' shelves that are large. Here are some members with large shelves. I don't know a better way to find large shelves, though.

Just order the first book, browse that person's shelf, then cancel the order (or go ahead and order more). As long as you cancel within a 60 minute period of time, that person never gets the request. And no, there's no penalty for doing this. It's a good way to see what else the person has.

You can also search boxer shelves without being a member.  It's under Community and then Box of Books.

I've done sort of what Heather has suggested.  If I have a few books I want to order from the same series-then I'll open 2, sometimes 3 PBS windows.  I'll order a different book on each one then hit the Order More From Member button on each one.  Frequently I find that one of them has more than 1 of the books I'm looking for and then I just don't submit the other 2 orders.

I've also tagged a lot of my RL books and when I'm scrolling people shelves who are offering Deals I can see quickly if my tag is on any books.

Also whenever I get a WL offer I do the Order More From Member button.  Just last week somene posted one of my WL books and they happened to have a book I needed for a series I'm gathering.  I had read books 1, 2 and had 3,4.  This person had book 5 so I added it to my order and they saved some postage.  THey saved a lot of postage actually because it only cost 2.38 to mail both books.

You can also post a list of books you are looking for in the book bazaar and you might even get a deal offer.

You don't even have to place the order to browse a shelf. Just start the ordering process, when you get the screen where you verify the addy, there should be an Order More From Member button. Use that and you can check out their shelf. If you don't find anything else and you don't want to order jsut the one, hit your back button and exit the order. No order will be place so no cancellation. No need to rack up those red Xs in your Transaction Archive.

There are a few members that have tagged their Reminder List (use something unique to you) and then post in the Bazaar or put it in their siggy that they are looking for the books and want to order more than one from someone.

If you are interested in a particular genre, say mystery or romance, you can find the discussion forums for that genre and click on the names of people who are posting there.  As long as they haven't set their bookshelf to "private", you can browse their shelf.  But if you are looking for a particular book or series, I like the suggestions up above.

Actually this statement isnt totally correct...if you order a book from a shelf that request may automatically be sent to the owner of that shelf.  I believe the Help Center states it can take Up To 1 hour....And I do believe the site frowns on repeated ordering and cancelling.  The only time there is a one hour buyers remorse is when  you have your books on automatic request.

There is a 1 hour buyers remorse period per the help docs.  I would not advocate ordering and cancelling a request.   You could do what Patty suggested or you could post in the book bazaar--create a new post with a list of authors or titles that you are looking to swap.   If you don't want to frequent the forums, ask members to PM you if they have more than one of the books you are looking to swap.  You could also post in the genre forums - look for the threads similar to what you are wanting or post in the red sticky at the top of the forums.  I would not recommend creating a post in the genre forums  but I would in the BB.  Good Luck.

Help Docs:  Cancelling a Request

What if I want to cancel a request I made?

The request is not submitted to the sender for 1 hr after it is made; this allows for cancellation if you requested the wrong book or change your mind.

  • If the requestor sends a Personal Message to the sender by clicking on the request, however, that 1-hr delay will be eliminated, and the book request will be submitted immediately at the time the PM is sent.
