Women\'s Prize for FictionCategories: Literary Fiction, Mystery
Formerly known as The Orange Prize for Fiction, which was created in 1995, the Women's Prize for Fiction celebrates excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing throughout the world. The winner of the best novel in English written by a woman receives a cheque for £30,000 and a limited edition bronze known as a ‘Bessie’, created and donated by the artist Grizel Niven. Both are anonymously endowed. The award is judged solely by women and awarded in June of each year. It was created during a time when it was felt that the considerable achievements of women novelists were often passed over by the major literary prizes.
