I was given this book when I got married in 1980. Like my marriage, the book has stood the test of time and is my most used cookbook. While it doesn't have much for a microwave society, it contains the best basic cooking information of any cook book I have. If I had to chose between Joy of Cooking and the Wise Encyclopedia of Cookery there would be no contest. Sadly, the book has not been updated and is out of print. My children will have to fight over this one when I am gone.
