After winning the most dangerous case of his career, prosecutor Penn Cage decides to remain in his Southern hometown to raise his young daughter in a safe haven. But nowhere is truly safe--not from long-buried secrets, or murder..When the nude body of prep school student Kate Townsend is found near the Mississippi River, Penn's best friend, Drew Elliot, is desperate for his counsel. An esteemed family physician, Drew makes a shocking confession that could put him on death row. Penn will do all he can to exonerate Drew, but in a town where the gaze of a landmark cemetery statue--the Turning Angel--never looks away, Penn finds himself caught on the jagged edge of blackmail, betrayal and deadly violence.

Another great book by Greg Iles. A long winded but excellent author who can make 600+ pages seem like an afternoon read. This book is a "who done it" where justice is in the eyes of the beholder. You won't look at life (or kids) in a small southern town quite the same way again.

What a twist - on almost every page. The book touches mature subject matter - murder with a sexual twist. It's an easy read, a true page turner. I can't wait to read more of Iles' books.

I love Greg Iles because I know I can pick up one of his novels and know what I am getting- a great suspenseful story with good characters who actually have character! In this one, a teenage girl turns up murdered in Natchez and Penn Cage is forced to try to help/defend his best friend from childhood. As more and more bodies turn up, the small town is thrown into turmoil.

As with most of the Greg Ile's books I have read, he grabs your interest and this one takes off like a steamroller and is really hard to put down.

It's no wonder Greg Iles is an award winning bestseller author. He takes you right inside the town where this story takes place and lets you get up close to the characters. I felt somewhat like a yo-yo as this story picked up the pace and guilty parties abounded everywhere. I just couldn't decide who really did it! A must read for the mystery lovers out there.

Picked this up some where but did not read it. Have read some of his works but find them loooong and drawn out.

Although 600+ pages long, I found it hard to put down and read it in the time it generally takes me to read 400 pages.
