When Jenner Redwine wins a lottery jackpot things get tough: her father rips her off and disappears; her fortune-hunting boyfriend soon becomes her ex; and friends-turned-freeloaders give her the cold shoulder when she stops paying for everything. Jenner can't imagine finding a place in the world of the wealthy. But now, seven years later, she's rubbing elbows with the privileged, despite the fact she still feels like a party crasher. When her ally, the shy, kind-hearted heiress Sydney Hazlett, invites her on a charity cruise aboard a luxury liner, Jenner reluctantly agrees, not realising that danger lies ahead. Taken hostage by a menacing stranger, Jenner must cooperate in a mysterious cloak-and-dagger scheme, or else. But as her panic gives way to exhilaration, and fear of her captor turns to fascination, Jenner rediscovers feelings she hasn't had in years - and realises she's found a life worth living. If she survives.

I enjoyed this book. The scales tip more toward the "mystery" part as opposed to the "romance" but this did not take away from the enjoyment. Should she ever venture beyond Harlequin, I think Ms. Johnson could give authors like Nora Roberts, Karen Robards, Julie Garwood and Linda Howard a run for their money.

This is my second book by this author and I was not disappointed. I am now looking for anything and everything she has written. A good book (for me) is defined by my inability to put it down. I wanted to read this book in one sitting but the demands of life would not allow it. I found myself hurrying through my chores so that I could get back to it.

I just finished "One Wrong Step" last night and I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Celie & McAllister's" story. I have now read all three of Ms. Grffin's releases and I am waiting for "Whisper of Warning" to release in March. I didn't enjoy "One Wrong Step" as much as I did her previous writings, but I think this to be because I prefer my heroes to be police officers or agents (hey, it's my prerogative!). Two characters, Agent Rowe (there he is!) and Kate Kepler are introduced in this book and I can't wait for their story to be written. Don't miss "One Wrong Step". Happy Reading!

I love anything by Susan Crandall so this has been on my TBR list for sometime. Finding it at B&N last week, I immediately paid full price for it (my name was WAY down the waiting list here on PBS). Anyway, once again, I was NOT disappointed. Ms. Crandall happens to be one of my favorite authors mainly because her books are never riddled with monotonous graphic sex scenes but instead focus more on character and plot development. The book description @ PBS (above) is accurate so I will not go into the plot but only wish to add that the storyline is complex and enjoyable involving a maze of family and the townspeople of this small quaint community ... complex yet not confusing. All is not what it seems. I read the entire book in one night, unable to put it down. My only disappointment is in knowing that I may have to wait a year or so for this author's next release. Happy Reading!

A Dangerous Attraction...

Abbie Hughes no longer trusts men, but despite her cool indifference, her long legs and showgirl face still draw plenty of attention. Between working as a blackjack dealer, going to school, and keeping an eye on her younger brother, Cory, there's no time for romantic adventures until the night a sexy, mysterious stranger places a wager at her table.

Spurred by revenge...

Sam Lang left Black Ops, Inc. when tragedy struck his family. Although he's determined to retire his M-16 rifle to lead a quiet life on his ranch, a vengeful quest will send him on a manhunt for the ruthless multimillionaire who murdered his sister.

...Reveals a savage threat they can't ignore.

Though Sam suspects Abbie is in on a lucrative gem-smuggling deal her brother made with the enemy, their attraction is undeniable. Now Cory is missing, and together they search the wild Honduras backcountry to find him. With danger on their trail, they must trust each other completely or face certain death alone....

Let me bein by saying that every reviewer on Amazon gave this book 5 stars. I personally would only give it three. I was expecting it to be just as good as all the previous books I've read by Ms. Gerard but, in my opinion, this book pales by comparison. The characters are "doughy" and the scenes predictable. I checked it out from my local library and am personally glad that I did not pay full price, half price or even postage (here on Paperback Swap). Happy Reading!

I've never written a review but I felt so strongly about this book that I decided to make it my first! I fell in love with Jack Bowman, the chief of police in a small town in Texas. He needed Fiona to help him solve the case he was working on but it wasn't long until he realized he needed her in every other way, too. Fiona is the best forensic artist in the business yet she is considering laying it down due to the occupational stress. She initially tells Jack no, but he is very persistent and she eventually agrees to help him. When the killer escalates and Fiona is placed into danger, Jack regrets his eagerness to involve her. Their love story is stretched the entire length of the story ... their feelings for one another increasing at a slow, realistic pace. I cannot say enough yet I cannot put it into words adequately. I am looking for anything else written by Ms. Griffin. I hope I am not disappointed!

I wish I had the book in front of me but as soon as I posted it here on PBS, someone snatched it up ... so I cannot go into much detail. Suffice to say that I was NOT disappointed. Your first meet Courtney in "Thread of Fear". She is sister to Fiona (whose story, btw, I LOVED). Courtney has some serious issues, and at first, I did not think I would like her because of them. But I was wrong (hey, we ALL have issues, right?). Anyway, I am a prejudice reader when it comes to alpha males and police procedural romantic suspense novels. Will Hodges is not solid alpha but his "soft edges" are in perfect contrast to Courtney's "brassiness". I was not disappointed. IMHO, Ms. Griffin cannot publish her works fast enough.

Could it be that we meet Nathan Deveraux again in the upcoming "Untraceable"?
