Aliki has provided a rambunctious travel through the day of a very fun boy, who has chores, school, and even violin practice--like many other youngsters. With an emphasis on responsibility, kids that are learning to do things for themselves (and the relieved parents) will get a kick out of following his day, and may even get some ideas of their own (like helping with dinner!).

My Little House ABC: Adapted from the Little House Books by Laura Ingalls Wilder (My First Little House Books)

Helpful Score: 1

Beautifully illustrated by Renee Graef, in the style of Garth Williams, this gentle introduction to the alphabet shows the sweetness of the Little House on the Prarie Books, and is a wonderful introduction to Mary and Laura. "A is for Apron, B is for Butter, C is for Churn..."

STORY OF THE LITTLE MOUSE TRAPPED IN A BOOK (Star Elephant Book)

Very cute book for little ones intimidated by reading. No words!!! Fabulous, intricate illustrations though, in a short (approx. 15 pages) hand-size book. Great for fans of The Littles or The Borrowers, or Stuart Little.

This introduces all the Thomas & Friends characters, and is a vocabulary-building book as well. Some examples are water tower, firebox, wheel arch, steam, and coupling chain. Double the reading interaction with your Thomas the Train fan by talking about the words listed on the pages.
