I picked this book up because my wife and daughter had been reading the series pretty avidly and I eventually plan on writing a supernatural romance book myself. Kinda research material of sorts, well needless to say this book goes beyond the romance novels I've heard about. It's action packed, funny and will keep you turning pages to figure it out. A great read for guys and girls and it isn't really all that heavy on the romance so guys pick it up and read it, you'll have something to talk about with the girlfriends. I hear later in the series it gets a little much on the relationships/romance and even sex but I haven't gotten there yet and so far it's keeping me reading so don't dismiss this one, it's a solid book with a good story.

Have Tech, Will Travel (Star Trek S.C.E. Anthology, Bk 1)
Review Date: 11/10/2009

A new phenomenon was created when a group of authors got together and starting writing E-Book short stories about a group of engineers as they go in special missions to unlock the secrets of new technologies. These are a bunch of masterfully written stories by several talented writers. Have Tech Will Travel: SCE Omnibus details the first 4 e-books released for the Starfleet Corp of Engineers.

The Starfleet Corp of Engineers is a team of individual miracle workers like Scotty of the Enterprise of ol'. He, in fact, is the man in charge of giving them missions from Starfleet Command, but they are captained by David Gold as they crew a Saber class Starship named after one of the original engineers da Vinci. With a compliment of brilliant scientists and engineers they get the special problem solving missions that require special handling and this keeps the crew of the Da Vinci busy.

Heartfire (Alvin Maker, Bk 5) (Audio Cassette) (Abridged)
Review Date: 4/8/2009

I decided to give this a try even though I hadn't read the other books in the series, I wanted to see what I was offering on paperback swap and I think the story was very well written and Nana Visitor tells it very nicely getting good characterizations. She has a very soothing pleasant voice to listen to and it's almost like I was a kid again listening to Mom tell the bedtime stories. It's made me want to go back and read/listen to the rest of the books in this series, I highly recommend it if you like the Alvin Maker series and even if you haven't read it, it stands alone pretty well.

Peter David has woven a nice new crew of characters within the confines of the awesomely created world of Gene Roddenberry. Keeping true to Roddenberry's visions of the future Peter David has written a series of novels that is compelling and gives us a whole new set of Starfleet's finest to read about.

The U.S.S. Excaliber is an Ambassador Class starship that is captained by M'k'n'zy (Mackenzie) Calhoun, a Xenexian man of vision who once lead the oppressed people of his planet in a rebellion against the Danteri tyrants that ran their planet. He now captains a ship of ragtag crew members in a mission to attempt to maintain order in an area once controlled by a militaristic empire that has now collapsed. One ship to patrol an entire sector and keep the peace, Captain Calhoun and his crew have to find a way to keep the powder keg from exploding and taking them with it.

Being a Science Fiction fan when I saw my wife reading these books I figured I'd give them a chance and I'm glad I did. S.L. Viehl introduces a realistic future of medical science interspersed with science fiction's alien races and the works. It's written in 1st person and that normally jars me but it's written so well that I got past it quickly. Cherijo quickly becomes a very likable character who is caught up in a universe of troubles that eventually lead back to her crazy father. Veihl creates wonderfully complex alien races and draws you in from page one til the end. I devoured this series pretty quickly and after a few books I typically loose interest in a series but not Stardoc. I HIGHLY recommend for Science Fiction fans and Romance fans, and it's not only for girls. Give it a chance guys you'll love it.

Xenocide continues where Speaker for the Dead leaves off in the Ender's Saga and meets and exceeds all expectations. I read these books after reading the Ender's Shadow series and they are not quite as good on that aspect but Orson wrote these 15 or 20 years ago and has only gotten better as an author. Where in Shadow(Bean's Saga) is about more war and the politics of the future and trying to unite the people of Earth before the third most devastating world war breaks out. This is more sacred addressing the religions of the future and what religions aliens might have.

Ender comes to the planet with the only other aliens human's have encountered other than the formic buggers which we wiped out long ago to try and stop another xenocide from occurring when this new alien's religion leads to what humans would call murder. The mystery unfolds in greater more complicated ways in this book and old technology is explained in new ways to create a new technology to solve all of the planet's problems. It's not a light read, and it's a bit complicated but I highly recommend it for the hard core sci fi fan.
