A charming view of an American woman corresponding with workers in an English bookstore after WWII. I loved the series of books based on their actual letters.

A bit slow in places, but enjoyable

Chew On This: Everything You Don't Want to Know About Fast Food
Review Date: 4/4/2010

I got this for my 14-year-old nephew who is a fast rood junkie, and really doesn't like to read that much - would rather be on the computer. But he's read at least some of this and told me about it. I think he likes it.

Children Flourishing - Igniting the Greatness of Our Children
Review Date: 5/5/2010

Just reading this book and making tentative steps at implementing it has improved my relationship with my teen.

Review Date: 4/13/2009
Helpful Score: 4

Interesting and worth reading. But I read it as a vegetarian, thinking it might convince me to give up dairy & eggs too. It didn't. It's clear that the Campbells are convinced that all meat product are bad for us, and there may be evidence they did not present. But the links between the data and their conclusions wasn't always as strong as I'd like to see it.

Discipline Without Stress Punishments or Rewards : How Teachers and Parents Promote Responsibility Learning

I like the philosophy, but this is much more for teachers than parents

I picked this book up on a whim and was impressed with the insights the author developed during her "education". There's lots of food for thought in this book and good reasons for self-reflection.

Healing ADD: The Breakthrough Program That Allows You to See and Heal the 6 Types of ADD
Review Date: 9/8/2012

I have some questions about whether ADD is categorical, or like most things exists on a spectrum. But the book was very helpful in reminding me how different my child with ADD's brain is from mine. And that was very useful.

Fascinating, well researched, but not an easy read for someone with limited historical knowledge, and none of early Christianity.

Easy to read, but falls short on the explanations of why Islam expanded. Does a good job on the where, when, and how.

Jewish Literacy: The Most Important Things to Know About the Jewish Religion, Its People and Its History
Review Date: 4/27/2010

Informative, easy to read. Biased, but no more than expected from a rabbi.

Life Before Life : A Scientific Investigation of Children's Memories of Previous Lives
Review Date: 11/5/2010

Manages to take some fascinating stories and through repetition and dry writing make them boring. It is not necessary to be boring to follow the scientific method of inquiry.

Playing Ball on Running Water: The Japanese Way to Building a Better Life
Review Date: 9/19/2011

You can get the gist of the book from the publisher's description. But it is easy to read, and I find some benefit in internalizing things with the longer explanations and examples.

The Presence Process: A Healing Journey into Present Moment Awareness

It's been a while since I read this. I remember it as OK, but not life transforming, as the friend who recommended it found it to be.
