An interesting look at a way of life - the author and her husband lived for two years in a remote Alaskan village. The children and their families are engaging and the historical perspective is very intersting. I enjoyed this book thoroughly.

The Dame Frevisse books are most enjoyable - and this one held true to this reputation. The story is well-paced, intriguing and the ending is unexpected but satisfying. A good read - any time of the year.

I accidently stumbled upon these books. Normally I'm not a mystery reader but I have found the Constable Evans series to be delighful. Having visited the part of Wales where these are set, I was initally drawn to the setting - but have found Bowen's ability to blend humor, intrigue, charming-but-quirky small-town characters, and a sense of reader involvement into the stories to be engaging. I would recommend them to someone looking for a light who-dun-it mystery. They are a quick, pleasant, interesting read.

In Silence is the story of a Hearing child born to Deaf parents and how she grew up - not belonging to either world very successfully. Her devotion to her parents is evident and her pride in their lives also shines through. It is a worthy read as it brings to light the unique experiences of a child living in two worlds - and worlds that are not necessarily kind to each other.

A most enjoyable read - One Irish national and one American make good on their dream of returning to Ireland and to a life that is simpler, centered and connected to the land. They admit to setbacks and share their successes all the while trying to be a part of a community being accepted for themselves. A recommended read for anyone enjoying Irish landscape reading, back-to-the-land narratives or just a wee bit of travel with writers who become friends before the book ends.

This slim volume details, with quotes from the famous and less-famous and author's personal experiences, the development of a passion for reading and for books. It is a delightful, gentle read - but can quickly touch the heart of the reader through a quote or thought that resonates well. It was a thoroughly pleasant experience and I would recommend it for a warm, gentle reminder of our passion's value.

This is a pleasure read for book lovers. His understanding of the desire to physically possess a favorite books makes for a shared sense of camaraderie with the authors and others who have read this book. The name-dropping might annoy some - but was more appetizer than irritant to this reader. The time I invested in this book was well worth it to me.

Having enjoyed this entire series to the reading of this book, I found myself again pleased with the author's efforts. Some characters are very engaging and some are fun to dislike. The intrigue held me throughout the work and the ending was satisfying. A good escape read.

Book three of this trilogy carries the friendships, hardships and story line to a satisfying conclusion. The inspirational message is threaded throughout but is not detracting from the story. A "feel good" book that is perfect for a comfortable, pot-of-tea reading.
