Baby 411 : Clear Answers and Smart Advice for Your Baby's First Year
Review Date: 7/26/2012

This book saved my sanity and my bank account on more than one occasion when my girls were babies! I highly recommend it to any new parent, or any parent returning to the wonderful world of babyhood.

The book is well organized in a way that allows you to search and find what you need in a snap. There are handy charts on childhood illnesses, feeding schedules, sleep schedules, even poop colors (yes, poop colors! For all new parents, you will become more interested in your baby's poop more than you ever thought possible, trust me!) It offers tips, funny anecdotes and both parental and medical advice. It tells you what is considered "normal" and when its ok to worry, which was a huge deal for me since I tend to freak at the smallest things.

If you have a baby coming, or know someone with a baby coming, and this book is not available on PBS, do yourself or your friends a favor and buy the book. It really did save my sanity! Oh, and as an FYI for the future, they also have a Toddler 411, which is just as good as the baby version in helping you to deal with those fun toddler years. Happy parenting!!

Call of the Wild: While this book is somewhat predictable and a bit graphic in places, the story is beautifully told. Jack London paints a beautiful and realistic picture of Alaska and the trials of dog sledding from the dog's point-of view during the gold rush of the late 1800s.

White Fang: I had a really hard time getting into this one. It ended up being very good, but it was very slow getting started and I had to force myself to keep reading several times. Jack London tends to be very wordy, often describing something several times before continuing on and several times during the story, I felt that some parts could have been left out as they did nothing to further the story or provide any kind of a back story. They were simply there. Other than that, the over all story was very good and heartwarming. I am glad that I stuck with it until the end.

Definitely one of Picoult's best! This book really makes you think about what you would do in that situation. The end was a little unexpected and very sad. Read it with a box of tissues!

I absolutely loved this book. It follows the time line of factual events pretty well and adds a bit of drama to them. Even though, you know what happens to both Boleyn girls, you can't help but root for both. The book is over 600 pages, but I found it to be a fast-paced read. It has also renewed my interest in Henry VIII and Elizabethan history. I plan on getting a hardcover copy for my permanent library so I can read it again and again.

This book is going into my keeper library (sorry PBS!). I loved it!!! It made me cry and laugh out loud. Its the story of a young grieving widow, who's deceased husband left her messages to help her get through her first year without him. Very touching!

One of my all time favorite books! I think I've read it about 6 times so far. Dolores is a very intriguing and complex character who goes through a whole array of trials and tribulations in her life, including rape, obesity, abuse, and mental illness, yet still manages somehow to overcome. You won't want to put it down.

This is my second Gregory and while this one is not as good as The Other Boleyn Girl, it is still very good. It covers a lot more of the political side than TOBG does, so if you are interested in that aspect, you will enjoy this. The story is intriguing and the last 200 pages or so are very gripping. The characterization of the three main characters leaves a little to be desired though. This is defintely one of those that you would have to read for youself to judge for yourself. I can't really say that you will either love it or hate it, but it will definitely make you think.
