When I read Alexander Mccall Smith's books, I am reminded that many people in the world are caring, kind and well mannered. And for a time after I finish one of his books, I think I am more caring, kind and well mannered.

It's hard to believe that Rainwater was written by the same author who wrote Texas! Lucky. Rainwater's characters are well developed, and the emotions underlying them are almost palpable.
