I had not read this author's work before, but I'm very impressed with his writing. Even though chess played a major role in the plot he made it understandable for someone with only a rudimentary understanding of the game. I thoroughly enjoyed this read!

Although I've been a fan of Nora Ephron's for years, this one just didn't do it for me. Perhaps because I'd seen her during her book tour with this one it was anticlimactic for me?

This first in the Joe Sandilands series was most enjoyable. Although I've read other novels set in India, this one captured its particular time setting most convincingly. I have already embarked on the rest of the series and look forward to more of Inspector Sandilands' mysteries.

A wonderful sense of place and culture. Inspector Zan is a wonderful character. He'll never replace Donna Leon's Brunetti, but he's a very close second.

This book is probably the best one I've read in this series yet. They are all good, but this story was most cleverly developed and had a surprising ending.

Ragtime in Simla: The Second in the Detective Joe Sandilands Series

I just discovered this detective series about a month ago. The first novel was interesting so I ordered Ragtime in Simla. It was even better than the first book in the series! I'm currently looking forward to two more Joe Sandilands novels arrival. Happy reader!
