The Greatest Skating Race: A World War II Story from the Netherlands
Review Date: 4/2/2009
Helpful Score: 2

This is a unique format for a children's book. The pictures really help tell the story. The story is told without being wordy, but somehow, you FEEL the same things the young man in the story must be experiencing. Good for as a read aloud or for middle/upper elementary readers. I loved that it explains some of the history and culture of Holland without being tedious.

A Guide for Using The Magic School Bus¨ Inside the Human Body in the Classroom

Very thorough approach to the subject. If your kids like the Magic Schoolbus, this book will help them retain what they learn about anatomy.

This author has a way with a story! She tells extra information about the time period, the place and the events of the time in a very skillful way. Everything is woven together smoothly. This story is appealing to anyone from elementary aged kids to adults. If you ever even liked Curious George, you will enjoy this book. Gives info on the Reys as well as WWll, Europe and Brazil.

All of Louise Borden's books have been lovely to read. I was unaware of the little ships being used to rescue soldiers at Dunkirk. This book told the story without sinking me with too much information. This author tells the tale in an interesting and easy to follow manner.

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle (Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Bk 1)
Review Date: 9/11/2009

Third and fourth graders like this story. Reading Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is kind of like reading about Amelia Bedelia, but better, because it isn't so awfully silly.

I liked this book because it has a loving approach to family. The main character is a girl whose mother is mentally challenged. The author does a good job portraying the things the girl learns about herself, her mother, and what is really important in life.

Three fun stories in one book - the series Lynne Graham wrote about the three goddaughters who can inherit a fortune if they marry are favorites of mine because I really like the heroines. Each girl has something (or several) in her life that could be crippling if she let it, but none of the girls do. The men are rich and stubborn, but come to really cherish the unique attributes of the girls they love.
