Fayrene Preston's books seem to always draw deep emotionally. This story has laughter, tears, and everything in between. The characters are well rounded, with faults and strengths making a complete picture. You get a clear picture of who they were years ago and how they became the people they are now. The secondary characters are full and contribute to the story line in a meaningful way.
This is a small book, so the story does not have too much of a secondary line running through it. The emotional ups and downs make it a bit heavier than the small romances usually are, but not so much that you are worn out from the roller coaster.

This was more romance than paranormal, but a good book just the same. The focus was more on the relationship and adventure portion of the story. Those who want lots of the paranormal aspects in a "paranormal romance" might be a bit disappointed.

This is a good story. After Miles was so instrumental in getting Lawrence and Juliet together and then causing trouble, it is fun to see him find his bride. There is an element of mystery and intrigue through this book and a bit of danger too.

Three stories, three reviews
M. Lackey "Counting Crows" - As another poster mentioned brutal rape scene. If you have read Arrow's Fall (Valdemar) you have an idea of what Lackey is capable of at times (not in all her books, but I now know of at least 3). You know it is coming, skip over the details (in my copy halfway down p48-halfway down p50). The story is good. You are set up to loathe her husband. There is only one quick theory as to why he is the monster he is. You are never given to sympathize with him. Short stories being what they are the characters can lack depth - all bad, all good, nothing in between. If you have read and enjoyed Valdemar stories, you will most likely like this one. By the way, if you find Elloran in the story let me know. I only saw the name on the back of the book write up and never again.
R. Lee "Drusilla's dream" The person summarizing the story for the back of the book did lousy. "Every night Dursilla Morgan dreamed..." - well technically true, but she was working nights so it was more "daydreaming" or "fantasizing" would have been a better word. If you have daydreamed and been pulled out, but wanted to go back in to finish it, you will understand. Or if you are the type of person who is slow to wake, so the alarm clock is some annoying bird in your dream until you finally truly wake. That overlap is what I believe turned some people off. Geek is the point. Artistic la-la land is the point. And what would you do if someone could jump in AND out with you? I liked this one. I know I have read Lee before, but nothing of hers has compelled me to put her on an author watch list. Still, it was a nice read.
C. Asaro "Moonglow" - This one was compelling. Some bits had to resolve quicker than I thought they should, but hey, short story by definition. She ties up the loose ends for you for all the characters. At least enough to be satisfied that you don't have to run out and get the book that this is related to. Still I may do just that. The "world" she created is interesting. The main characters that will be in "The Charmed Sphere" are complex enough in this story to make you curious.

The synopsis gives a good a description of the book. It is another tense story.
As an interesting side point Susannah is an author - she writes "the Ace McKenzie books" which are the favorite books of bookworm Maddy Lawrence - heroine of "Maddy Lawrence's Big Adventure" (SIM #709).
This book is fun with adventure, a bit of a mystery/who-done-it, and of course romance. All of the books in this series can be described this way. Some, if not all of them, even have gunfights! Wild West indeed!

This story is all about expectations, hers, his and the public's. Ellen gets the fairytale and then she finds out that a Prince is always public property. The pressures of loving someone whoses life is watched publicly and someone whose life is very differnt from yours can be difficult. This is a good story. The characters and their feelings ARE the story.

This is a powerful story. This has some very dark parts toward the beginning. There is an element of the mystical. Yet a very human story and very human struggle. This one is hard to explain. I would not suggest it for younger readers. It is not as suitable for them as "The Blue Sword" is. [I am not a parent however, and may have an inaccurate view of what young people can handle in terms of reading/viewing traumatic events. If you are a parent of a teen who wants to read this, read it yourself first.] That said, I really like this story and have re-read it a few times. It is no darker than Julie Garwood's contemporary novels as a point of comparison. Less so in some ways since the dark thread does not run so strongly (and menacingly) through it as with Garwood's new ones.
I saw a review somewhere else for this book and the writer said she wished the ending went a little farther in telling what happens with the heroine. I thought it was a good way to end the book. For any of you who feel the same however, read the first part of Spindle's End where they talk about the queen and her country of origin.

This is one of a trilogy of books written about a blackout "Where were you when the lights went out". None of the characters are connected however, so you do not have to read them all to get a complete picture or find out about secondary characters.
This story is really a fun tale. There are a lot of secondary characters that are just as much fun to follow as the central characters and are integral to helping our couple get together. The writing is vivid. One of my favorite parts of this story is when Sam and Dru imagine their future with their respective fiances. The children help make the story even more entertaining since, like children will do, they state the obvious that the adults are ignoring.

There were a lot of characters to keep up with. It makes sense since it was a movie set. However, it seemed a bit cluttered. It did deliver the promised adventure with a touch of romance. Just a touch though - don't go into this looking for a real love story. The adventure and mystery takes center stage.

This book is really great! The characters are full. This story has light, dark, sad, funny, romance and good dragons (not the destroy the city variety.) I really wish she would write the third one she promised at the end. I would buy it hardcover in a heartbeat.
There is a short story by this author as well with some of the same characters. She used to send you a copy for $5 if you asked from her website. Last time I checked however she had stopped for a time.
The Last Dragonlord is the first book; Dragon and Phoenix is the second. The books can be read in either order, but it will be more fun (and more surprises) if you read them in order.

This is a fun book. Light suspense, some out-loud laughs. Krentz does a good job of bringing you into the characters' growth.

The synopsis on the back of the book is not quite accurate. It must have been written by someone who did not read the book. Maybe they read the author's preliminary "ideas" for the story? For instance, Georgi writes novels, not poetry. There is one female cousin and two male cousins all single, but I don't remember any mention of sisters - let alone ones Georgi helped "match". There is some matchmaking in this by Georgi, but she has quite a bit of help in it. There is no mention of other couples she has matched (that I remember).
All that aside, it is a fun story. It reads like many by this author. A lot of intertwined characters and a story that builds and then falls together quickly once all the bits are in place finally.

Warrior is my favorite of the bunch, but all are pretty good. The only complaint is the story patterns are very similar across the four books. At least the characters are different and the details. They are still fun to read. There is also a hunt for Mad Jack's gold mine that runs across several of the stories.
Reckless Love is a western adventure. It is a distant pre-quel to the four Silhouette Desires. It is the story of Janna Wayland and Ty MacKenzie. Mad Jack is a character in this book and a legend by the time of the four follow-ups.

This first story is Becky's. She takes care of everyone but herself. This one has the most mystery and tension of the four. The brothers' books take place almost immediately after this one ends. Although you do not have to read these in order to enjoy them, there is more mystery to this one if you read it before any of the others.
