These crafts are truly timeless and heirloom quality. Even though this book was published a number of years ago, as a 20-somethings, I still find the projects really beautiful and worth making. There is truly a huge variety here as well, and the projects are organized by historic period, and then by category. While there are plenty of lovely sewing and needlework projects, there are also quite a few small woodworking projects, faux painting techniques and other fun stuff. It's a keeper!

Bright from the Start: The Simple, Science-Backed Way to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mindfrom Birth to Age 3
Review Date: 11/2/2011

A really helpful and clear guide to helping give babies and tots a solid education foundation. It does a good job of debunking some myths about a lot of commercial "advice" on raising "geniuses", and I really appreciated that all of her suggested games and activities are low or no cost. Since the author is both a mother of a special needs child and a Ph.D who began looking at developmental psychology well before it was an area of study, I really felt I could trust her advice.

A Continual Feast : Words of Comfort and Celebration, Collected by Father Tim
Review Date: 4/1/2012

I give this a low review, not because of the contents, which are really quite a nice variety of quotes and sayings, but because it is printed in a very, very hard to read pseudo-handwritten font. I am 26, don't wear glasses, and I still have a difficult time easily reading this. I can't imagine someone who has less than perfect vision deciphering this.

I get that it's supposed to be a "journal," but they certainly could have found a much easier to read script font. A real disappointment to what could have been a very meaningful book.

Such an excellent book. It really does take Alcott's book to a deeper (and not always enjoyable level). At the end of the novel, I still wasn't sure whether I liked Mr. March or not. What he through is hard to read, and his character isn't always likable. I found myself frustrated watching how by protecting his family from the horror of war he becomes increasingly detached from them. Alcott's book exists independently of the girls' father, and really this book, in turn, exists independently of the girls. For those who know and love "Little Women" this will be a difficult book, because it does strip away the March girls' perfect view of their father. It instead offers a gritty and challenging look at the bitterness of race and class divisions that consumed the Civil War, and the impact of such a reality on a man searching to define his own convictions.

This is Dobson at his best - practical and insightful into the minds of young children. He focuses on the importance of establishing boundaries for children at a young age, so that a parent's authority is trusted and secure as that child grows older. Coming from a family where this wasn't the case, and marrying into a family where authority was known and trusted, I can see so much value in Dobson's approach. It's what I want for my children - not a home with yelling and nagging and empty threats, but firm boundaries, real consequences for outright rebellion (not toddler antics) and abundant rewards for good behavior.

A really excellent book, full of tips on high-quality restoration, especially for pieces with real value. Helpful for us do-it-yourselfers who also value the history of the furniture. I definitely appreciate its section on veneer repair and using hide glue.
