Solid 4 stars, right up until the last two chapters. I don't know if the author was afraid the book was getting too long or what, but the ending seemed so overly rushed.

The plot of the book is good and I enjoyed it, good fantasy content. But the main character is the absolute worst. She is not deliberately made to be villainous, sometimes characters like that can be likeable in their own way. The character Jericho was made to be likeable in that he is a jerk. But not Mac.

But no, this character is just an insult to intelligence. Not a single chapter goes by without you being slapped in the face with "hey reader, remember that she is a Southerner! Georgia peach! Remember that she likes pink but isn't girly! She likes isn't like the other girls!!!" I could get over this flaw if it was only the first two or three chapters where the author is establishing her character, but it is persistent throughout the entire book. It is grating and while I would want to find out what happens through the series, I can't fathom reading the same derivative thing over and over through the rest of the books.

Not very good. Cute art style, but you can definitely tell it is a self-insert Mary Sue magical girl book. The characters couldn't be more obvious if their names with Bortney Bove and Burt Bobain.
