This is just superb. Lucy was an enchanting and troubled young woman. After finishing this, you must read Patchett's TRUTH AND BEAUTY about her friendship with Lucy.

Wow. I am glad I read this one - it would be interesting to have a modern version created. It is disturbing to view the underlying self-hatred (as a result of racism) that motivates the characters.

LOVED this book and I will now be searching out Mark Doty's books because his writing is so beautiful. And his writings about his dogs - lovely, heartbreaking.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book. Everyone I suggest it to loves it, too. Suskind does a fantastic job capturing the life of a talented young black man.
