The world holds its breath as the Tribulation Force ventures to Jerusalem for the great Meeting of the Witnesses, where tens of thousands defy the Antichrist to sit under the ministry of their pastor-teacher, Tsion Ben-Judah. Meanwhile, Rayford Steele finally discovers the shocking truth about his wife, Amanda, but becomes an international fugitive. The fifth Trumpet Judgement--a plague of scorpion-like locusts led by Apollyon, chief demon of the abyss--is so horrifying that men try to kill themselves but are not allowed to die.

The scattered Tribulation Force is drawn inexorably toward the Middle East, as are all the armies of the world, when history homes in on the battle of the ages. By the time of the war of the great day of God the Almighty, homes have been uprooted, new alliances forged, and the globe has become a powder keg of danger. Except those already in Petra, everyone has been forced to relocate as Antichrist ratchets up the ante in the world's most treacherous game. New love is sparked, recent love is formalized, and old love is aggrieved while millions gather for war. Who will be left standing when the battle leaves the Tribulation Force on the brink of the end of time and the Glorious Appearing?

Desecration: Antichrist Takes the Throne (Left Behind, No 9)
Review Date: 3/17/2007

Rayford Steele and his ragtag team of flying rebels--having arrived by the dozens from around the globe--ready themselves to serve as agents of rescue for God's chosen people. Led by soft-spoken Chaim Rosenzweig, believers in Jerusalem must flee or take the mark of the beast. His Excellency Global Community Potentate Nicolae Carpathia, no longer pretending to be a pacifist, has ordered every Morale Monitor armed as he prepares to travel along the Via Dolorosa and then onward to the temple, where shocking surprises await. Crowds loyal to Carpathia gather to see their potentate and are eager to take the mark in his presence. Buck Williams, unsure of Chaim's leadership abilities, questions whether he should take charge. Chloe Steele Williams fears for Buck's safety and acts on her own desire to be more involved. Tsion Ben-Judah prepares for his trip to meet with fellow believers in Petra. Meanwhile, Rayford struggles with the idea of using arms to protect believers from the GC. The lines are drawn between good and evil as God inflicts the first bowl judgement upon the flesh of those who have taken the mark, while his chosen ones flee to the wilderness, on the brink of Armageddon.

The dark, fearsome Ringwraiths were searching for a hobbit. Frodo Baggins knew they were seeking him and the Ring he bore--the Ring of Power that would enable evil Sauron to destroy all that was good in Middle-earth. Now it is up to Frodo and his faithful servant, Sam, with a small band of companions, to carry the Ring to the one place it could be destroyed--Mount Doom, in the very center of Sauron's dark kingdom.

This is such a wonderful, poignant book that tells the story of multi-generational bonding between the great-grandmother, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. I especially found the story of the Grand Lady understanding why her granddaughter couldn't stomach food after learning that her father had "departed this earth". It sounds like a simple thing, but when Grand Lady comforted her and said that they "shall have ourselves some gardenias for breakfast". That incident is just a tidbit of the sentiments described in this story told with such attentive descriptions of the characters' life experiences. A seemingly single purposeful cross-country trip becomes an interesting tale of conflicts and resolutions and reconciliations. Well written and a page-turner.

Antichrist has assembled the armies of the world in the Valley of Megiddo for what he believes will be his ultimate triumph of the ages. With a victory here he would be able to ascend to the throne of God. The Tribulation Force has migrated to the Middle East, most ensconced at Petra with the Jewish Remnant, now more than a million strong. But only one of the four original members of the Force remains alive, and he is near death. Jerusalem is falling to the Global Community's Unity Army, and Tsian Ben-Judah has been slain. Few in Petra know of his loss, and both Rayford Steele and Buck Williams are unaccounted for. It's been just over seven years since the Rapture and almost exactly seven years since Antichrist's covenant with Israel. Believers look to the heavens for the Glorious Appearing of Christ, as the world stands on the brink of the end of time.

Admiral George Edward Orkwright was one of the most respected men in the quiet seaside community--until his dead body was discovered at the shore attired only in women's undergarments. Dr. Alexandra Gladstone is not convinced that the man's death resulted from a drunken drowning accident as suggested by the local constable, who has refused to allow her to perform an autopsy. With the authorities determined to ignore the suspicious circumstances surrounding the admiral's death, Alexandra begins her own investigation--an investigation that puts her at odds with the law--and uncovers secrets even more shocking than the dead man's state of dress.

What a wonderful, well-written poignant story about a "lost" woman searching for her adopted daughter! I could not put it down! The ending surprised me, but after thinking about it for a while, it really was the best solution for everyone. Miranda's journey into the past was a painful one, but it was necessary for her own rebirth.
