startling in Prose's vividness of character. i was riveted by the characters who seemed so real i couldn't help but feel compassion for them and wish that the choices made were better. as the truths of who they are revealed, i could not tear myself away from the awfulness of the inevitable outcome. Very disturbing, very very good.

Cited as one of the 10 Best Books of 1999 by the Christian Science Monitor, and New York Times Notable Book of 1999. I found this an extraordinarily riveting story with some unlikely characters. With locations as wonderful as you can imagine, this book takes you on a delightful journey.

A real page turner. all of Deaver's work keeps you on the edge. his characters are well drawn and his locations outstanding.
