This is one of the best books I have read in recent years. I have recommended it to many friends and to my book club.
The author caught the magic realism style of South American writers even though she is from North America.
The ending is a change from the pace of the book, but I think the author intended us to realize that the magic of the situation was over and that real life had returned.
I encourage you to read it.

Five star book.
Rennie Airth's series - this is book 2 - is for those who love a good mystery in an English setting. The writer is a formal journalist who has an easy-to-read style of writing.
It took a little while to get into, but once I did, I was hooked. You will come to love John Madden and his physician wife.

Stephen King said that he believes this is the best mystery of decade.
"Entertainment Weekly" and "People" both raved about book 4 of the Jackson Brodie series so I decided to pick up Book 1, "Case Histories." I also have read the second book in series.
Case Histories is a page turner. I had a hard time putting it down. It is a good mystery and novel. In both this book and book 2, I had several "laugh out loud" moments also. I am planning on reading all four books she has written with Jackson Brodie as main character.

Just a few weeks after reading this book, which ended with an attempted bombing in Times Square, a similar real-life scenario was thwarted.
This is the first of Alex Berenson's series on CIA agent John Wells. I am now on book three and am considering buying the fourth in hardback.
If you like Gabriel Allon in the Daniel Silva books, I think you will like these. It's a great way to find out what is going on in the CIA and the world today.

As a fan of Daniel Silva's books and hero Gabriel Allon, I was thrilled to find Alex Berenson's books featuring CIA operative John Wells.
I liked the first book, The Faithful Spy, a bit better but The Ghost War is also a page-turner. I think these books are a fun way - if that is politically correct considering such serious subjects - to find out what is going on behind the scenes in the spy worlds of the major powers today.
Currently, I am reading the Silent Man and enjoying it also.

I was attracted to the first book of the series because I am very interested in what caused the Russian Revolution.
I have read many books on Russia and these books do a great job of providing insight into what was in the minds of the people of Russia from the early 19th century on.
Additionally, there are several good love and war stories in the books.
Book 4 introduces the children of the major characters in the first few books. The book also introduces an American journalist.
The author does a nice job of weaving Christianity and prayer in Book 4.
If you like a good historical romance while learning history, these are the books for you. I want to read all seven in the series.

Really enjoyed this book - the first in the currently three-part series of the Dublin Murder Squad.
Thought the characters were very sympathetic and story was interesting.
I also enjoyed a glimpse into modern day Dublin.

If this was not a true story, you would find it hard to believe.
Shocking affair of married lovers who leave their families and run away together, shocking all the good folks in Oak Park, IL, and Chicago in early 20th Century. Similar to today, reporters chased them to Europe. Frank Lloyd Wright was a larger-than-life character. The story of his great love, Mamah Cheney, is haunting.
Beautifully written book. Great for book clubs.

I loved this book - former NYPD detective John Corey is back and better than ever. If you have never read Nelson DeMille, please pick this book up. I really enjoyed how he tied the unexplainable plane crash off of the East Coast and 9/11.
After reading, you will want to read all of Nelson DeMille's books.

Noblesse Oblige is a really fun read. Emma Rhodes is quite the character - beautiful and brilliant with a wonderful lifestyle. If you want to escape into her luxurious world with a good mystery, give it a read.

I read many books on World War II but am primarily interested in the European theater of the war.
This book provides a chance to visit Hong Kong before and during the war.
It is not a pretty picture. But this book is probably accurate in how people acted at the time.
Very well-written. An interesting story.

Read "Gorky Park" many years ago and recently picked up a copy of author's "Stalin's Ghost" also featuring Renko in post-communist Russia.
Was inspired to read all books featuring Renko so I went back to book 2, "Polar Star." Was not disappointed. Good murder mystery in dying days of Communist Russia. I plan on reading all 7 or so books in series now.
With so many choices of murder mysteries out there, it is great to read those that include knowledge about another society like Russia in current times.

While reading the book, I kept thinking it was no "Gone with the Wind" or "Giant." However, I finished it in a few days as I wanted to know how the story turned out. If you like a good "higher quality" romance, this is a book for you.

In the 1990s,Cynthia Smith wrote five books on her character Emma Rhodes, an upper class amateur sleuth-for-hire, who is beautiful, intelligent, well dressed, witty, knows all the right people, etc. The books have been reprinted and there are older copies around.
I assure you she is not the disheveled Columbo type. You think you would hate her but you don't. Her observations on the upper classes, including the English aristocracy, are very enjoyable. And she takes on cases involving them that are intriguing.
As this is the last of the series, I suggest you read them in order starting with "Nobless Oblige." However that is not necessary and I read this one second as I wanted to read her observations about Russia. The book was published in 1998, the year that I visited the country. I stayed at a hotel written about in the book and she described it exactly as I remembered.
If you are looking for a fun read with a good plot, try the Emma Rhodes series. I believe Royals and Rogues is my favorite of the five.

I agree that this is a 5-star book.
I loved it. Please read the first two in the Honor Bound series. It's a story about the OSS and the Nazis in Argentina in World War II. General Peron is ready to make his bid to take over the country.
There is plenty of action and some love stories for the women who read the book. I cannot wait to start the fourth and final book in the series.

I am enjoying these books about CIA agent John Wells as they are providing much of the "back story" in what is going on in the world today, especially the Mideast.
A few weeks ago, I started with the first of the series, A Faithful Spy, and have read book 2, Ghost Wars, and now this one, the third in the series. They are really page-turners. I have put other books aside to read these in order.
I liked the fact that one of the characters involved in the attempt to make a nuclear bomb with material stolen from the Russians had second thoughts about it. The author brings to life the beliefs, fears and doubts of our enemies in this conflict. It reminds us that it is not as cut and dried as we might believe.
If you like Gabriel Allon in the Daniel Silva series, you will like these books. I can't wait to read book four, The Midnight House.

Another winner by Cynthia Smith in her Emma Rhodes mysteries. If you are tired of sleuths who dress like Columbo and share every angst they experience, Emma is the woman for you. She is beautiful, intelligent, well dressed, savvy, secure, sexually liberated and very likeable despite all that.
You will enjoy this mystery among the wealthiest in society. I encourage you to read all five.

Author has a lot to say about the class system in England. There are a lot of laugh-out-loud parts. It will make you think a lot about family and the ones you love...and don't.

I had read all the books in Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry except for this one and really enjoyed them. I decided to go back and read the first book and I was not disappointed.
I had heard about the Knight Templars but not really understood what they were about. This book provided me with that information plus a good introduction to Cotton Malone, Stephanie, Thor and Cassiopia, all characters you will encounter in the series.
It was worth reading!

I have read many books about the Romanovs and the Russian Revolution. I do recommend this book and the two preceeding it if you want to get to some insight into why the revolution came about. This series provides information about activities during the century before that led to the revolution.
The book helps you realize the corruption among the ruling classes and the helplessness that the lower classes felt in Russia.
You also will come to care for the major characters and their love stories.
I plan on reading the remaining books in the series.
