"In Chicago, an ordinary key unlocks a magical trunk paced with robbers and a pie. In Boston, five magical bon-bons make an ordinary senator, and ordinary professor, and ordinary girl and her ordinary parents do the most estraordinary things! A young cowboy lassoes Father Time; the dummy in Mr. Floman's department store window comes to life; and a tiny beetle gives a New England farmer and his wife a pump which pumps not water, but gold!

Author of the much-loved Oz books, L. Frank Baum transforms the familiar with his magical mix of humor and enchantment. Most of the twelve stories in this delightful collection are set in America where, so it seems, modern fairies, knooks and ryls are always causing the most astonishing things to happen! These tales will enchant both young and old"

"Chester had his own way of doing things...Chester's best friend Wilson was exactly the same way. That's why they were best friends. And then Lilly moved into the neighborhood."

The best friends had their own particular way of enjoying life. Lilly was blatantly different. Eventually they see similarities & new ways of doing things together. Great book about friendship.

A fun, light read about a volumptuous Yank thrust into a month of wearing a corset while re-enacting a Victorian Manor House. Think PBS special rated a heavy "R" plus pratfalls & some witty dialogue. Fluffy, but engaging enough for me to consider reading more of MacAlister's work.

Interesting look at this long-forgotten invalid of the Victorian Age, "The Brooklyn Enigma." Michelle Stacey not only covers the history of Mollie Fancher's injuries, clairvoyance, and fasting, but also the doctors' and spiritualists' conflicting views of this young lady. This tale includes quite a bit of the origins of various forms of psychotherapy as well as the evolution from spiritual anorexia to our modern day anorexia nervosa. Joan Jacobs Brumberg's "Fasting Girls" was the inspiration for this book.
