The Christmas Miracle Of Jonathan Toomey
Review Date: 12/24/2008

This book, published in 1995 has been a family Christmas favorite since we received it.
It has exceptionally beautiful pictures to go along with the touching and wonderful text.
The story is about a cranky widower who takes on a wood carving job, and how it changes him for the better, because of local widow her son that order a new manger scene. The true meaning of Christmas shines through this book, with a love story on the side, and some gentle humor. Throughout the tale there is a wonderful, gentle explanation of Christmas.

I found this book to be an eye opening read, to say the least.
It's a short book in length but very powerful in it's facts.

These were some of the points that I enjoyed...
- The laws of thermodynamics and creation.
- What do rocks tell us about the flood.
- Fossils and evolution.
- Monkey & Man DNA.
- Hoaxes...Neanderthal Man, Piltdown Man & Nebraska Man.

My favorite quote from the book... "The chance that the higher life forms might have emerged in this way [evolution] is comparable with the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junk yard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein." Fred Hoyle

As a mom, I was impressed!
Written by guy's for guy's.
After polling girls about likes/dislikes and such they worded this book in a way that young guys can relate too.
My son and I each read a chapter and then lightly discuss it. His eye's are slowly opening to the wonder (and confusion) that makes us females, the beautiful creations that God intended us to be.
5 Stars!!!

I laughed until I almost wet myself!

Every page of this book is a 'Postcard'. Made of heavyweight paper so you can actually toss on a stamp and mail it if you wish.

Each page has a photo of a baby animal with a caption such as 'You're Fired' or 'I married you for your money'. My personal favorite...'You Have B.O.'!

Grandpa lost his teeth!

The author uses the word right out of Grandpas mouth...
Yesth, It'sth one of the funnith bookths!

The story takes you from the moment he realizes the teeth are gone, through the hilarious hunt, till the ending where only you know who the thief is!

The illustrations pulled me in and the silly story held me captive. It's a hoot!

Talk about a great book for kids...wow! I wish this would have been made when I was a kid 30 years ago. I would have enjoyed writing more often with all the fun ideas they have in this book!

I would say it's geared to kids between the ages of 7 to 14. It includes a few sheets of colorful paper and matching envelopes, along with stickers.

Every page is filled with colorful illustrations, hints and tips for writing simple notes, letters & thank you's. There are decorating ideas, how-to info on making a pop-up card, addressing an envelope, stamp & postmark info, and abbreviations for streets & states too.

Did you know that you could enclose a stamped letter to someone in an envelope, send it to the postmaster of a town anywhere in the U.S. and ask them to postmark it and send it on? This book tells you how to do that!

Some of the other helpful chapters include how to ask for help (save a historic tree), get information, say 'I'm sorry', write to the President, and complain to a company (my game was missing a part).

This book would make a fantastic gift for a child recovering in the hospital, a birthday gift, or for use by home schoolers!

I enjoyed the book very much!

I did need to use the dictionary occasionally, since the author used at least one 'big' word per chapter that I, as a non-author/writer had never heard of before.

I laughed at the cat & human antics and got teary-eyed at a few sad places too.
Highly recommend!

Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned the Political Establishment Upside Down
Review Date: 12/10/2008

Though I started reading this book with very little knowledge of Sarah Palin, I felt I had truly gained insight about a remarkable women who has and should continue be an important asset to this great country of ours.

I thought the author did an excellent job of giving us snippets of Sarah's life so far.
It was a quick read, and didn't get old for a minute!
I also enjoyed the photos that were included of her and her family & friends.

I would highly recommend this book to junior and senior high students, as well as adults who need to regularly reflect and refocus what they are really doing with their lives and how truth and honesty need to be at the core of our beliefs, no matter what we do for a living.

This mom had a blast making paper airplanes with her kids, using this book!

This large, 58 page book of full color diagrams is suitable for any age kid over 5, parents & grandparents too.
Use any ordinary paper...that's it! No tape, no glue, no clips.

The kid friendly diagrams are colorful and very easy to follow along. The front of the paper is shown in one color and the back in another.

25 planes in all, and each one has 'throwing tips' to help you get the best results for your flight!
