Because I've listened to James Lee Burke's novels on audio, I have the 'sound of the cajun,' in my ears. His stories and characters are consistently colorful and sadly believable. His turn of phrase unique. The plot line never fails to surprise.

I would give this a 6/10. It was heartwarming without using cheap drama in an attempt to make the reader cry. I listened to it on audiobook and it was an easy book to listen to. The plot was somewhat predictable but the character development was wonderful.

Well-written, stories within the cultural context of an important time in American history. Characters are well-developed and true to their nature. Would highly recommend. This is an audio cd, quite long but worth the effort.

Brokaw interviews and interprets people who were representative of the values and dreams following WWII - a well-thought-out, well-presented documentary.

A great book. Character development is believable and the reader can relate to the emotions of the protagonists. Set in Greece and America after the turn of the century, it was educational as well as entertaining.

Because this is an autobiography, one cannot expect the same fast-paced, tightly-wound spring of a story line as one might get from a murder mystery. The book was well-written but seemed to sag a bit in the middle.

This is a typical "Bourne" storyline - riveting, surprising and fast-paced. Mine was an audiobook so some of the foreign names were confusing - more difficult to imprint in one's memory than if they could be seen on a written page.
But the book does not fail to entertain.

Enlightening. Characters come to life on the page and the reader feels as though she knows them intimately. While it focuses on antisemitism and prejudice, there are so many other elements of human nature that exemplifies human foibles and egocentrism. The characters lived in 1932, but could be believable today. One of the best books I ever read.

Split Second (Sean King & Michelle Maxwell, Bk 1) (Audio CD) (Abridged)
Review Date: 11/25/2011

This is an audio book. David Baldacci is a great choice when selecting audio books, especially when driving as you can listen without being distracted. Excellent plot line and character development.

The Thirteenth Tale (Audio CD) (Abridged)

Gripping, easy to follow with surprising twists and turns.

The Virgin Suicides (Audio CD) (Unabridged)
Review Date: 12/7/2011

Plot line was refreshing and, ironically believeable. Character development was adequate - there were several complex characters - almost too many for the reader to fully 'get to know.' It was an audio cd and 'read well.'

While I'm not normally a big fan of short stories, his are like small novellas, complete with an arc and a satisfying ending.

A gripping story - unexpected ending - a tale well-told.
