It has the same narrative structure as Those People but with way more time spent on the run up to the actual event. Nearly 400 pages of this book is flashback. This isn't a mystery. It's petty people being horrible.

It's a gender swapped Lullaby of Broadway (as seen in Gold Diggers of 1935, not the up tempo retooled version for the 1980 stage play version of 42nd Street).

Long and stuffed with lots of excess. Pared down it could be retitled China Bayles Has One More Question a la the middle grade book Effie Starr Zook Has One More Question

Fun read. Reminds me of another romance I read a few years ago. The title of that one has escaped me.

The mystery didn't really gel for me. Not enough time was spent on running the fair / doing event planning. The sleuthing should be tied to the job.

Fun read. The American printing made some odd changes... like including a racoon. It was probably a ring tailed possum. The author lives near where I spent two weeks hiking/backpacking in winter. There are abandoned homes like Rookward along the river.

I want to find an older untouched edition, not one that's been influenced by the changes made in the original miniseries.

It's very dated and very twee. Plotwise it's The 39 Steps meets Macbeth.

I either love her stuff or get bogged down by it. This collection is a little bit of both.

It was fun to find the places that still exist but also sad to see the destruction wrought by BART and Caltrans. The older trolley lines would still be useful.
