This is the first in a series. It's light-hearted, fun, with generous amounts of romance and mystery. Charlaine Harris writes well and you feel drawn into the small-town Southern lives of the characters. It's well worth reading and a very pleasant diversion from everyday life. It's certainly 'lighter' than any of the other Vampire series currently popular.

This is an old favorite of mine, first read when it was new & I was a child. It's a wonderful story, especially if you're from NYC and have been to this museum. A classic. I got this copy for my son's girlfriend, who is an Art History major in college & had never heard of the book! She enjoyed it very much.

Donna Leon writes beautifully and her characters are human and believable. Her descriptions of Venice are wonderful and the mysteries themselves are complex and intelligent. A Sea of Troubles is is the middle of the series; each book can stand alone but I found that looking for the earlier books & reading them in series was more fulfilling to me. There are subtleties & facts that are appreciated more by knowing what came before. Highly recommended.
