Help Center - I just joined! Where do I start?

Search Terms:

Welcome!

  • First, you will want to Post ( = list) the books you want to offer to other members.
    • These are books you are ready to part with; they will not be sent back to you.
      • After posting 10 books, you will receive 2 "gift" Book credits from PBS (and 2 Free Swap Fees to use with them)
        • only the first account for a household receives startup credits.
      • If you don't have 10 books to swap, post whatever number you do have!
      • Your books should be
        • in good condition (see guidelines here)
        • ready to be sent out when requested (see Swapping Deadlines)
        • Remember, when you send a book out at PBS,  it will belong to its receiver; it will not come back to you. The same is true for the books you receive -- they are yours to keep (and re-swap!)
  • You will also want to browse for books to request, and add to your Wish List.
    • Popular and unusual books are swapped via the Wish List, so you want to get into the queue for those! Even long Wish List queues can move fast once they get going.
    • There are also plenty of books available to request right away- those books will have an "Order this Book" button on the listing.
    • You can set up the Daily Digest or Daily Wish List emails from your Account Settings, as described in How to Use the Daily Digest and How to Use the Daily Wish List.
  • As soon as you have Book Credits (and PBS Money for Swap Fees, OR "Free Swaps"), you can request books.
    • Each book (hardback/paperback) costs 1 Book Credit.
    • Each audiobook costs 2 Book Credits.
    • Read this to learn about how to find books to request at PBS.
    • If you find a book in the database and it is not currently available you can add it to your Wish List.  Read about the Wish List in How the Wish List Works.
  • You should read about the options for membership in FAQs About Annual Memberships , and choose which membership plan will work for you. There's no time limit to decide about this after joining.
  • When you get a request for a book:
    • Read this to learn how to send the book
  • When you receive a book:

And that's pretty much it!
