Book Review of Forcing the Spring: The Transformation of the American Environmental Movement

reviewed on + 46 more book reviews

Gottlieb presents the history of how environmentalism arose as a coalition of earlier movements that had not previously been defined as environmental. He was the first to consider how other sociological concerns such as race, ethnicity, gender and even economic class have contributed to the evolution of environmentalism as we know it today. Gottlieb's work initially evoked some important controversies, and presents many points to ponder.
