Really beautiful, touching, well-written by an author who never wrote another book as far as I can tell.

A beauty and the beast story of a man horribly scarred who meets his true love in a young village woman. The tenderness and sweet sadness of how the hero feels about himself, his ability to love, and his ability to protect those around him make your heart break within the first 10 pages. I'm not sure we ever get to know the heroine very well but she's the conduit to hearing his story and falling in love with someone so broken inside and out.

The love scenes in this book are not very steamy, but as with many well written romance novels, if the love story is well-told, the love scenes seem steamier. I always roll my eyes when the virgin has an instant orgasm when she makes love the first time - this book induced quite a bit of eye-rolling. But I can forgive it, I loved the story and the hero too much to care.
