First in the series. When a guest has a fatal fall down the steep stairs, inkeeper Magdalene Yoder is more worried about a lawsuit than foul play. Other problems arise: An arrogant congressman and his wife check in for deer-hunting, offending the other guests who are animal rights activists. Her Amish cook quits when vegetarian guests refuse to eat her hearty cooking. But when a second guest is found, stiff, cold and dead on one of her handmade quilts, Magdalena is sure there's a killer on the premises.
