This book arrived on accident, so it sat a while. I'm a Grisham fan though. It took me a couple chapters to start to get into the theme. I readily admit to attending football more for the family social aspect than for the interest in strategy and game. So I hope that explains my viewpoint.
I couldn't feel sorry for a washed up jock (get a life and work like the rest of us) until he took the offer in Italy. Somehow reading about someone who had such a passion for his sport that he'd go to Italy, live somewhere he'd never visited, didn't know the language, culture, etc.
The details Grisham picked up about the lifestyle, food, entertainment, even the countryside made this so enjoyable that when I realized I only had one chapter remaining I was a bit sad that it was ending.
There are enough football play/strategy details that I suspect my husband might even read the book and enjoy it - before I post it!
