As Constance, a 19 year old lady of England, is bidding farwell to her uncle, she finds herself in the captive hands and at the mercy of the captain. he discides that he can get a fairly large portion of money by selling Constance.
Drew O'Conner is NOT looking for a bride. yet when he comes home the day he buys mary, a cook, and wins Consatnce at a game of 1 and 30, he finds he is in more that a little trouble. the day after he buys the two young women he finds that the judge, pastor and a colonel are insisting he marry one of the girls or be exiled out of his plentiful and growing plantation. so, he chooses to marry constance, although this isn't your typical marriage, will their marriage work or will Drew send Constance back to England? Great book, wish it wouldn't end.
