Donna Jean's mother died when she was 7. Later, as an adult, she looks for healing from the unresolved grief of her childhood. The story is told from her perspective as an adult, with flashbacks to scenes of her childhood. The setting is the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. I really liked this book, except that I didn't relate to the occasional references to Catholicism.
