This book is a classic, depicting war right from the mouth of the guns. The reader can almost smell the cordite and feel the earth shake under the German bombs.

One of Innes' first novels, ATTACK ALARM was written when Hammond Innes was a young gunner stationed on a Battle of Britain aerodrome in 1941, living through the shattering experiences he so accurately describes. Because the book was written 'under fire' on a gun tower in 1941, the urgency and intensity of the times are communicated by the young author.
As well as a thrilling adventure story of fifth-column activities, the book is an authentic, hair-raising account of the long summer of 1940 when England hung on the brink of disaster and only a handful of fighter planes could prevent total defeat . . .
