Sorry to say, I found the so depressing I could not finish it. I got about 2/3 of the way through. It was interesting how the character's stories intertwined, but it was so dreary, and I get it, life is dreary, but, man. I finally gave up.
This was the only required book that I chose not to keep from graduate school, simply because I didn't like the ending. The book was good, but the ending was depressing.
Another one that was hard to finish. Each chapter follows a Native American living in Oakland, following their problems. No sucess stories. All hard core, on the edge. Sad.
This book is absolutely incredible, insightful, and heart wrenching at the same time. Gives great insight to the native-american experience in the modern world. The characters deal with a multitude of demons and I found myself relating in many different ways to the struggles. This book should be required reading in today's world.
