Second in the Anna Strong series. Anna is still trying find balance between her old life as a human, and those she loves, and her new life as a vampire and the needs that come with being undead. She meets new and different beings. I love this series and am looking forward to number 3, The Watcher.

Really enjoyed this book. It's a new series for me, and I read the 1st 3 books in three days. Highly recommend this author, and other reviews which suggest a combination of Charlaine Harris and Laurell Hamilton are correct, although, thank heaven, sex is not nearly as graphic as LH's most recent.

Enjoyable. Fast read.
Anna is still adjusting to becoming a vampire and hiding her new, true nature from friends, family and her DEA boyfriend, Max. After being betrayed by Avery, will she be able to trust anyone?

Not only is Anna still not accepting she's a vampire, she's let all her vampiric responsibilities lapse.

I get a little irritated with series that never end and only give us a tiny taste of what is to come eventually. The story was well written and entertaining, and can almost stand alone as simply a mystery book. However, I'm going to need a little more plot progression to continue with this series.

I expected to learn a little bit more about Casper. I was also expecting Anna to learn about this legacy people keep mentioning to her. I also thought she would settle some things between her and Max.

More of a mystery with paranormal elements, those elements include Anna and the police chief being vampires and a school teacher being a werepanther. (That's not a spoiler: look at the gorgeous cover art by Cliff Nielsen.)

I enjoyed reading this book. I wasn't sure if I would when I first started it since the main character's abilities/liabilities deviate some from the typical vampire lore. I thought the characters were interesting and am looking forward to reading the first in the series along with the later ones.

Nice sequel to THE BECOMING. Anna is attempting to live a "normal" life even though she's now a vampire. It's interesting how different writers add or subtract from the classic vampire characteristics. Anna can go out in the day, and it doesn't appear that when she does sleep, she's effectively dead. She can drink anything but not eat. She has a need for blood and of course that's tied to sex (that part, no one changes). She doesn't appear in mirrors which is one thing that really makes me laugh - why in the world? I like that we're going to see more supernatural creatures coming out, and the whole underground "command center" thing was great. However, Anna does seem to be having a lot of trouble adjusting. I see this in a lot of urban fantasy, even detective novels: the tough female protagonist just can't accept the idea that they don't know everything, can't have everything their own way, and will not accept even good advice that makes sense. I do hope that in the next books Anna realizes she needs to get an education about her new life, because having her thrash around infuriated all the time is going to get boring.
