David Paul Marco (November 1967—Present) is an American technologist, author, lecturer and consultant. Marco is widely credited as the world's foremost authority on meta data management. In 2004 Marco was named the "Melvil Dewey of Metadata" by Crain's Chicago Business as he was selected to their "Top 40 Under 40" list. Marco is also an expert in the fields of data warehousing, data governance and enterprise information management.
Marco was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in the southwest side of the city. His mother's name is Mary and his father's name is Paul. In 1985 he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from DePaul University in 1989. His Masters in Business Administration (MBA) was also earned from DePaul University in 1993.
Marco worked as a consultant with CSC Partners (later became CSC) and at Prism Solutions before forming his own company Enterprise Warehousing Solutions, Inc. (EWSolutions) [1]
Marco has published hundreds of technology articles on data governance, data warehousing and enterprise information management; however, the majority of his writing has been on meta data management. He has been published in dozens of magazines and web-base publications but he is best known for his monthly column for DM Review magazine which lasted over a decade. Currently, he is the chairman of the EIMInstitue.org (http://www.eiminstitute.org/) where he writes a monthly column for their online EIMInsight journal.
Marco published his first book in 2000 "Building and Managing the Meta Data Repository". This book focused on defining meta data management, its uses and how to utilize it for a meta data management program within an organization. The book believed to be the largest seller in the history of the meta data management field.[2]
Universal Meta Data Models
Marco published his second book in 2003 "Universal Meta Data Models". This book gave detailed examples of two companies ([Allstate|Allstate Insurance Company]] and RBC Financial) that have build Managed Meta Data Environments. The majority of the book is dedicated to presenting various meta models that address each meta data subject area.[3]
Marco is listed as a contributing author on the books DAMA Resource Guide and "Impossible Data Warehouse Situations: Solutions from the Experts". [4]
Marco is a speaker and he has presented hundreds of keynote addresses and courses at the major business, data warehousing, and meta data conferences throughout the world. [5]
Marco is the founder and President of Enterprise Warehousing Solutions (EWSolutions), a company providing companies and large government agencies with solutions using enterprise information management, data warehousing, data governance and managed meta data environment technologies [6]

DePaul University's "Top 14 Alumni Under 40"
In 2007 he was named one of DePaul Unversity's "Top 14 Alumni Under 40". This was the first year that DePaul University named their top alumni under the age of 40. He was featured in DePaul Magazine.[8]
DAMA Data Management Hall of Fame (Professional Achievement Award)
In 2008 Marco was enshrined into the DAMA Data Management Hall of Fame (Professional Achievement Award). There are several awards in the DAMA Data Management Hall of Fame; however, the Professional Achievement Award is considered the most prestigious award in data management.[9]
