This book was so spellbinding that I could hardly put it down. I was so mesmerized by the story line and characters that I lost all track of time. As to the killer I was clueless until the very end. It was not a story that was predictable or easy to pick out what was going to happen next. It kept me totally involved all the way to the very end. One of the best I've ever read.

Another fantastic read by Beverly Barton, it continues the Griffin Powell saga. This one is about Lorie Hammonds and Mike Birkett, how they suffer through death threats made to Lorie regarding her time in LA working on a porn movie. Now years later everyone connected to the movie is being killed...and Lorie is on the list. Mike fights his attraction to her after she left him years ago with a broken heart. He's the sheriff and must protect her, at all costs. If you like Beverly Bartons books this one will not disapoint.

A killer is going after all of the actors in a porn flick just released on DVD after 16 years. It was the only movie made by the main character in her failed attempt to become famous in LA. She's returned to her hometown to remake her life with mixed success, particularly with her old flame who despises her. Good meaty suspense and romance.

SLOW SLOW SLOW--FAIRLY GOOD STORY ALTHOUGH I THINK ANOTHER VERSION IS OUT THERE SOMEWHERE BUT IT MOVES VERY VERY SLOW

Lorie Hammonds dreamed of making it in Hollywood so she left Dunmore, Alabama to pursue her dream. She left behind her boyfriend, now the town Sheriff Mike Birkett (see Silent Killer for the back story).

She came home after her fantasy failed and her BFF widow Cathy Cantrell needed her (also see Silent Killer). Mike remains angry with her to the point it impacts his job as he ignores death threats aimed at her. The widower tries not to be short with his kids, eleven years old M.J. and nine years old Hannah while not understanding why they reject caring Abby Sherman who reminds him of his late wife Molly. However, Powell Agency detective Maleah Perdue takes the threats to Lorie seriously as a serial killer is methodically murdering the cast who performed in the nude in an adult film that Lorie would prefer to not count on her credits list. She will show her inner strength when the two kids become the target.

The latest Dead By romantic suspense thriller tied to the Powell Detective Agency is a tense direct sequel to the Silent Killer. The story line is fast-paced from the onset as a serial killer methodically murders the cast of a porn film with Lorie listed as an actress. As she and Mike learn via Dead by Midnight that a person cannot run from their deeds as regret and remorse are powerful feelings that never quite leave. Fans will relish this strong sequel with a fascinating unexpected potentially deadly twist that does not require reading the previous novel, although that helps with the past that haunts the present.

Lorie Hammonds returned to her hometown nine years ago, hoping to live down her past. Many people in the small town will not let her forget her centerfold layout or the porn movie she made. After receiving some threatening notes in the mail, she contacts the Powell Agency, asking them to look into the threats. Right away they assign her a bodyguard. They also insist on contacting Sheriff Mike Birkett to let him know what is happening. Mike and Lorie dated throughout high school. When she left him to pursue a Hollywood career, he was devastated. Since returning to her hometown, Mike has refused to have anything to do with her. Now the actors in her one and only movie are being targeted by a madman and Mike is determined to save her.

When I started this book, I thought it was the first book in a trilogy. Well, I soon discovered that the trilogy is part of a much larger series. I believe this is book eleven in the Griffin Powell series.

This book had so many characters, I practically needed a score card to keep track of everyone. Besides Lori and Mike and their families, there were the targeted actors and their families, local police, FBI, and various agents from the Powell Agency. There were also people who lived in the small town, and a handful of suspects who we followed throughout the story. The story was fast moving. The body count was high. I guessed the murderer early in the book, but still found the story interesting. I believe I'll give the next book in the series a try. My rating: 3 Stars.

This book was wonderful! She writes about the area where I live and I am familiar with all the places she talks about. She is a master of suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. I just finished book two in the series and it was one of those you can't put down! I am starting book 3 tonight! LOVE her style and talent. It's a shame she is no longer with us.
