Brian Keene is one of my favorite authors. He has a gritty realism in his writing and main characters who are easy to sympathize with, and this book was no exception to this. Dead Sea has alot of gore and action -- reading it was like watching a late-night R-rated horror movie. But while I enjoyed the book, the ending seemed flat and depressing.
I've read a couple of other Brian Keene's books, and they have all shared these same traits--gritty, down-to-earth characters, non-stop movie-type action, and a tone of hopelessness and depression that makes me wonder what was the point. Have you ever watched a great action, special-effects movie that you are really enjoying, but you keep thinking 'cool, but where is this going?' That is Dead Sea.

This was my first foray into the zombie genre after reading most of the great vampire stuff out there. I enjoyed this one as an easy read. Full of action for some of it. You don't get too attached to any of the characters since they aren't in the book long.

There are probably better zombie books out there, but it was a fun/easy read.

One of the best horror writers I've come across in a long time. Very gory, very gross, very sickening but if you like horror this is for you!

Not a bad book - just not as good as The Rising. The usual tale of survivors fighting to stay alive while zombies try to pick them off, except that these survivors are on a ship.

This was a pretty gory book but for the most part a really good read.

I really enjoyed this book. It kept my eyes glued to the page and I truly did not want it to end. The main character was well drawn and I would want him on my team if zombies ever were to take over.

Got me paranoid. I have an over-active imagination as it is and reading a zombie book in the middle of the night does not help. I couldn't put the book down. Just had to keep reading. Can't wait to read more of his stuff.

This was my first book by Brian Keene, but it definitely won't be my last! I have always loved books about zombies, and this one is great! Mr. Keene has a great writing style that draws you right into the action from page one. Actually, the very first sentence had me laughing so hard that I couldn't wait to read the rest: "I didn't shoot the bi**h until she started eating Alan's face."

How can you resist a book that starts like that??

If I was ever apart of an end times like this I'd want to be with the main guy. He was smart enough to know how to get things done. Great story as always. Everytime I read KEENE he NEVER disappoints. I have my favorites, I am re-reading THE RISING, but if you LOVE excellent original and often times not for your mother's eyes writing. Then you'll love this book.

I should know better. I think it's not the author but the sub-genre; I actually like other Brian Keene novels, but I think the apocalyptic zombie novels are just too much of a downer. After I read this, I wanted to contact Mr. Keene and say, "Dude, take your Prozac." However, Brian Keene is my only experience with this sub-genre of horror, so I still reserve judgement. In any case, this book was pretty much the same plot as The Rising/City of the Dead, just without the religious overtones. Not his worst work, but not great read, either. Thank goodness it was fast, now it's over and I can move on.

May be OK for children, but the plot is thin, and the writing geared towards less proficient readers.
