I've been very disappointed in Connealy's book lately. First the Kincaid brother books, and now Deep Trouble. There is no development in the love relationship, and the first kiss seems to be a shock to both the characters, I don't know many people who accidentally kisses. The main characters are unlikeable, esp the girl, who I find frustratingly naive and thickheaded, and the guy I find flaky. The supporting characters are very very many, and also not very developed. And the antagonists, those characters that are after them, are thoroughly evil and loathesome, and MC spends way too much time on those guys. Love stories don't have to be works of genius, but they must have character development and growth of love. Having a little love tension is enduring, building up to that first kiss is part of the fun. I won't be looking to read any more MC books. Or if I do, I'll be borrowing them.

Shannon's father believed there was a city of gold and had coded maps showing the way. After his death, Shannon goes searching for this city to prove her father right. As so many times happens, the desire for gold leads to more trouble than Shannan can handle. She is left to die in a cave high on a cliff with no way down.

She is rescued by Gabe who wants nothing more than to visit his older brothers before he settles down on his ranch in Wyoming. Shannon talks him into continuing the search for treasure. Danger is soon on their trail.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as some others by this author. I just couldn't connect with Shannon. But the descriptions of the Grand Canyon were wonderful, and having never seen it myself, I could imagine seeing it for the first time as Shannon and Gabe. Standing in the shadows on the eastern side, watching the sunrise reflecting on the western side. Awesome!
