I LOVE Linda Howard books. I haven't read a book by her that I haven't liked, and boy can she write an alpha male. Her stories are rich, full of emotion and she really connects to the reader. This story in particular was so well written, you feel the struggles of both Dane and Marlie and when the end of the book comes, LH rewards the readers with a great HEA. I am really looking forward to reading her MacKenzie family.
LH is an author I don't even question if her name is on the book. I just grab it and enjoy. Plus I keep her books--this one is a duplicate I can share.
Linda Howard is one of my favorite authors. I will pretty much read anything with her name on it. Still, you have to like her style of writing. The story lines tend to change, but the basic premise is always there. Heroine meets man, he usually has a few issues, and they must learn to love and trust each other with whatever plot Ms. Howard has thrown in. I personally like the way she maneuvers these types of novels.
In Dream Man you meet Marlie Keen who is a psychic trying to live a quiet life away from everyone she knows. She is very much a loner with no friends or relatives that she enteracts with. Although Marlee used to work in the psychic field, she left because she was almost killed while helping the police solve a crime years ago. Guess what? Marlie witnesses "psychicly" a murder and feels compelled to go to the police. At the police station she meets hunky Detective Dane. Dane is your basic gruff workaholic cop who at first believes Marlie is nuts, and then believes she's a suspect. As he follows her around town and has her investigated, he ultimately comes to believe in her ability. Now he will have to work with her as they try to track down a serial killer. The characters are good, the story line flows and I read this book in one sitting. Highly recommended.
A serial killer is on the loose in Orlando and Psychic Marlie Keen has seen the murders through the eyes of the killer. When she approaches the police with her story, Detective Dane Hollister is very skeptical. He doesn't believe her story about clairvoyance. Because of the information she provides, Marlie becomes suspect number one in the case. After Dane and his partner dig into Marlie's past, and then witness Marlie's vision/trance while another murder is happening, Dane begins to believe there may be some truth to her story.
Linda Howard sure knows how to write a good story. I was glued to the pages when I first read this book 10 years ago and it was just as good this time around. The romance is hot, hot, hot, and the killer is truly scary. My rating: 5 Stars.
If you haven't read a Linda Howard book, start with this one and you will be a fan forever! A great book.
This is one of Linda's very best books. A great read! You literally won't be able to put it down!
This is a good book by many standards.
Murder, suspense and romance. Well written, I just don't personally love stories where women are stalked.
Exciting, high suspense romance
Det. Dane Hollister of the Orlando PD has serious doubts about Marlie Keen's supposed clairvoyant powers but there is no doubt about how much he desires her.
Clairvoyance, crimes, and happiness, ? What a combination. Marlie Keen was trying to live a quiet life, until her clairvoyance came back. She met Detective Dane Hollister of the Orlando police department, could he help her.?
I like all Linda Howards mysteries. Great read.
Leave it to Linda Howard to keep the pages turning. not only does her
books weave a fine story but keeps the ticker working overtime.
This book was like a combination between Open Season, Mr Perfect and Now You See Her. It was sort of predictable.
this was a another good book from linda howard. I read this book fast. I counldn't put it down. Will read more from linda howard.
One of my very favorite Howard stories!
This is the second book in the Blair Mallory series (the first one is To Die For). I listened to both of them on Audio Book. I know I liked the story "To Die For" but I didn't care for the reader, her voice grated on my nerves and got in the way of my being able to appreciate the story. This one was excellent! The reader was great and that Blair Mallory is an absolute hoot! This one was so good that I'm going to purchase "To Die For" in paperback so I can read it for myself and appreciate the great humor that almost every book I've read by Linda Howard has... I just love her!!
This book was sold as a romance but it felt more like a thriller with lots of sex. The romance was only so-so, though some of the sex scenes were pretty steamy. I was more entertained by the general premise of the book. The heroine, Marlie Keen, is a clairvoyant empath. She's been living alone for six years after an encounter with a crazed killer seemingly wiped out all of her psychic powers. Now, out of nowhere, she winds up "linking" with a serial killer with powerful mental energy. She watches his killings through his eyes. These "visions" cause her to go into an almost catatonic state, and afterward she is exhausted to the point of nearly being comatose for 12-24 hours. At first she thinks this vision is just a dream, but when she hears about the murder on the news, she reluctantly approaches the police. She knows that they'll treat her like a fraud and dismiss her as a crazy kook, which they do, but one of the detectives in charge of the case falls instantly in lust with her.
The detective, Dane Hollister, almost reminds me of one of the Brothers from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. He's huge, dominant, and possessive. Basically, he's an alpha-male with a capital 'A,' although he's missing the tortured past that seems to be a prerequisite for being a member of the Brotherhood. He and Marlie get off on the wrong foot, but one thing leads to another and the next thing you know they're having lots of hot sex nearly every other page. Their emotional connection came second to the physical stuff and the vicious murders going down, but they fell in love, of course. This was technically a romance novel, after all.
Still, the romance element felt secondary to me. It would have been better off as a thriller, I think. Also, it was a bit predictable and I didn't particularly care for the ending.
I love all Linda Howard stories.
A Psycic and a cop and a madman. She is a little crazy, he is a lot of man and the other he is very evil. Good Stuff.
If you love psychics then you'll love this book. It's a great romance with some suspense and of course the psychic. Great read!
Very good book. Marlie and Dane are a perfect couple. I love how he is there for her when she needs him.
Great book, great author. Must read.
Excellent. Everything a romance/mystery/thriller book should be!!!
Excellent book, I have read this one more than once
excellent story and Detective Dane Hollister and Marlie Keen are great characters.
Romantic suspence involving woman who sees crimes as they are committed and Orlando police detective. Sexy suspense-filled book.
This is a great author, I love everything I have read by her
good quality, couldn't put it down!
This is my favorite book. She's one of the few authors that I will buy in hardback and she's on my keeper bookshelf for life.
This is a wonderful story that I keep reading over and over again.
This is a wonderful book. It is Paranormal with a great love story.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the heroine and the author really helped me visualize the read.
I'll start out by admit to writing this particular review at an inopportune moment... being as I'm currently in a rather vindictive mood ( so much so that at one point I actually wished the heroine would meet her maker just so the hero would feel overwhelming guilt for some of his behavior)
However I have to say that there's nothing terribly extraordinary about this particular LH novel. Which In and of itself annoys me, as anyone who goes through the romance forums (here and elsewhere) frequently comes across praise for all things LH... I gather that those opinions are for all LH's books except this one (though I'm still trying to understand the rating this got, which I think was given more due to Linda Howards name than the true quality of the read).
To be blunt, this is romantic suspense's standard fare. Nothing stood out, really. Nothing makes me want to keep it. Nothing grabbed me enough that I just couldn't put it down (I took around 2 weeks to read this one). Honestly, I'm not even sure I'll be able to remember it tomorrow.
That's not to say there's nothing good about it...there's plenty. A good story. A heroine who is intelligent as well as self sufficient. Secondary characters that don't annoy the reader. It's just all rather common. I've come across all those things before, so these in this book, aren't terribly memorable.
The hero however had a tendency to bother me... Though this was published in the mid 90's, his alpha-ness made him appear to be a throwback to the 80's... a period which I lived through but was too young to remember. A period I also don't enjoy romances from as most (if not all) 80's hero's come across as jerks in present day America. He's probably the main reason I'm not overly fond of the book.
How the H and h got together bugs me as well. It just seemed so sudden! and the resolution to their last fight, annoys me as well! (Apparently if talking doesn't solve a problem, sex will).
So am I happy I read it? Yes, as it's another LH I can add to my BIR list. Am I keeping it? I think Not. I don't see the point in keeping a book that ends up being little more than a waste of space.
This was a great read!!!I read every night to help me fall asleep, and every now & then I get caught up in a book that is sooo good I have to force myself to put it down...this was one of those books..good reading!!!!
Very good murder mystery with a psychic twist.
Detective Dane Hollister of the Orlando police Dept has doubts about psychic Marlie Keen who sees crimes as they're being committed (from the murderer's viewpoint). Their growing passion will lead them on a dangerous journey into the twisted mind of a madman who will threaten their happiness and their lives.
this book is a repeat. i read it years ago. was just as good the second time. while dane hollister has never met anyone like marlie kane, he is still attracted to her even tho he is not sure he believes anything she says.
Heroine sees crimes as they are being committed, helps detective find killer.
Had she finally found the man she longed for?...or was she dreaming?
Good blend of romance and thrills!
I loved it - couldn't put it down. Lots of romance and mystery/thriller.
Detective Dane Hollister of the Orlando police department had never met anyone quite like Marlie Keen. While he has doubts about her supposed clairvoyant powers-she sees crimes as they're being committed-there is no doubt about how much he desires'her. To Marlie,Dane is all heat and hard muscle, and he makes her body come alive as it never has before. But not even she can foresee that their passion will lead them on a dangerous journey into the twisted mind of a madman who will threaten their happiness and their lives...
Very good story with lots of action! loved it!
Linda Howard delivers again. She writes the best heroes without a doubt!
