Ellen C. Hinsey (born 1960) teaches writing and literature at the Skidmore College program in Paris and at the French graduate school, the Ecole Polytechnique. She is the author of Update on the Descent (University of Notre Dame Press, 2009/ Bloodaxe Books, 2009),The White Fire of Time (Wesleyan University Press, 2002/ Bloodaxe Books, 2003) and Cities of Memory, which was awarded the Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition prize in 1996. She edited and co-translated The Junction: Selected Poems of Tomas Venclova (Bloodaxe Books, 2008) and has translated contemporary French fiction and memoir (Riverhead/Penguin Books). Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Irish Times, Die Welt, Akzente, Poetry, Poetry Review, The New England Review, Agni Review and The Paris Review among other publications.
