This was a very interesting story and I learned a lot I never know about the Bronx and Poe. I like Linda Fairstein's stories. Every one I've read has been better than the last.

An excellent and surprising novel, a fine murder NYC mystery featuring Fairstein's DA Alexandra Cooper; well-written, wonderfully detailed {take it from someone who knows Da Bronx!}, quick to read, touching, smart, and very enjoyable!

This was the 2nd book I've read by Fairstein. I like the way she works in historical facts about NYC into the plot of the story. I love modern murder mysteries and this is one of my favorites, very exciting, a quick read.

One of Linda Fairstein's latest and best, this novel has the historic Bronx and Edgar Allen Poe as backdrops as the savy DA, Alexandra Cooper, assists NYPD in solving several murders and rapes. It's a good read as a mystery, especially if you're fond of New York City history.

It was a crime scene Edgar Allen Poe himself could have conjured, only it was much too real. Workers demolishing a nineteenth century brownstone where Poe once lived unearth the skeleton of a young woman buried standing upright behind a brick wall.

Fairstein writes from her experience as a sex-crimes prosecutor in the NY DA's officer. The nitty-gritty down dirty work that goes into building a case is all here, plus the gift of a great story line. In this novel a body is discovered walled up in Edgar Allen Poe's house in the Bronx, a crime straight out of one of his novels. Only the corpse isn't 200 years old and it falls to Alex Cooper to solve the murder before the murderer takes her out of the story line.
Excellent book. This was my first by Fairstein. The Poe theme is what drew me to it, and I must say I got a pretty good "Poe" education by reading it. The ending was a little of a letdown, not because of "whodunit," but it was presented pretty blandly in comparison to some of the other action in the book. Still, overall it was a very good read. If you like your fiction with historical facts woven in, you will enjoy this book.
Linda Fairstein's books are really good books. They keep you guessing until the end.
Edgar Allen Poe is the star of this tale. I learned a lot about him in an innocous manner. Fairstein spins a good tale that is very readable. No heartstopping moments but a continuing thread that keeps you reading avidly. I plan to read more of her work.
A mystery that Poe would be proud of. The body of a woman is found entombed in a wall and the investigation reveals a tangle of clues that will leave you guessing.

9th book in the Alex Cooper series. To me, it helps to have read them all. There are quite a few characters in the book that are mentioned in every book and to get a better idea of their history with Alex Cooper, it helps to have read them all. I really enjoy reading this series and always look forward to the next installment. It helps that often you are left hanging a little to find out what becomes of the 3 main characters.

After a few less than thrilling novels from Fairstein, she's back in my good graces with this book. I love the NYC setting and the Edgar Allen Poe tie-in. As far as mysteries go, it's rather predictable after a point, but I'm still engaged.
As one previous reviewer noted, there are several recurring characters and it's nice to see them back in each subsequent book. To me, they're like old friends and I love 'catching up' with them. We're left hanging a bit at the end I am anxiously awaiting the next novel to find out 'what happens' to our trio.
